Rip Off Ireland - A thread for rip offs

Four quid for hot water. In centra. Jaysus.
Wouldn’t buy it on principle.

Youd be obliged to steal something on the way out, or torch the place. There’s not a court in the land that’d convict you

Ah, that’s an awful place.
Hard to get in and out of also.

The Maxol near the hospital is much better all round.

Before covid my brother in law was a rep for Musgraves. He said them tea machines make about 100k a year each.No wonder every lad with an instagram account hss a coffee shop.

Heard similar about a very busy petrol station in cork city who have a few coffee machines on the go …one of the machine packed up and someone spilled the beans(no pun) on how much they were losing out on every day the machine was out of action… it was phenomenal money

That’s the cost of convenience

How much does a sandwich cost at Centra?

I’ve heard that they’re great to work for in fairness, always good to take in work experience students and look after them well, also employ some people with learning difficulties including somebody I know well.
The price of tea while clearly extortionate is not out of line what b we’ve come to expect in recent times.

There was a story some years back that busy coffee machines were turning over a million euros a year

You’ll have to clarify which shop you’re talking about there.

Ryan’s centra in Raheen was where the tea was purchased I believe

I’m about to renew the house insurance. My current providers initial offer wanted €390 - up €80 on last year. I didn’t reply.
With a week to go some gent rings me to alert me to this renewal date.
We jaw it over and back and he’s now at €340. Stalemate.

I seek another quote. €330 - improving. After a mighty exchange we whittle this down to €280. I provisionally agree. The rep says I should be sent on trade missions abroad such are my negotiating skills.

I’m collecting a granddaughter from school when another gimp rings in response to my seeking a quote. €360. No I said - your best offer - hold on - music plays - back - €310. Why didn’t you say that the 1st time…Guff follows. I proceeded then to chop him off at the knees with my €280 quotation in the bank. Grandaughter says she understands where her father gets his conversation skills from…Bastardos……

Yeah this annual horse trading boils my pish!

Side note- grand nieces debs time soon
Buying dress time.
Her mam quoted e690 for her choice,
Or e200 for a loan if it,
Obviously didn’t go for that manipulation.
She said twas a pure meat market ( in Ballincollig)
Each time a mammy opened a purse to buy a loud bell would ring,
Followed by an applause :face_with_peeking_eye:
Shysters!
Place was packed with young WANs and anxious looking mams.
Anyways my niece took pics of dress,
Make side etc etc,
Went onto minted and bought the exact sane dress for e350( still a rip off in my eyes)
Only upside is she will get back a few e150/200 next year
Hopefully anyway,
Within an hour of leaving the shop niece hinted “!Harry Styles is playing in Wembley “
Niece nearly fuckin ate her-
Well girl you’ll not be going

I get porridge with Jam and a cappuccino delivered to my table for four quid (£3.98) on the mainland, along with a bit of friendly banter.
