Road Deaths

You hardly want her rushing home?

No. But you know what I mean.

Glad to hear you support lower speed limits, traffic calming and increased enforcement

Or just, you know, even a token attempt to police the rules that are there could be useful too

Speed kills

Seat belts lads, everyone wear your fucking seat belt!!

Young lads driving around in 150+bhp cars doesn’t help either.

There was a two car collision just outside Miltown Sunday and I cannot believe nobody died in it after seeing the state of the cars .

Not like years ago Mike.Way too many on the roads nowadays.
Add the drug driving into the mix now along with the traditional drink and Id be of the opinion to let the youngsters be bus wankers.

Phone usage also adding fuel to this fire

True that

Young girl in her early 20’s from Dunmore East killed in a single vehicle accident on Tuesday night.

The standard of driving is just getting worse and worse.

I’m on the road nationally a good bit and it’s just appalling what’s on show.

  • Tailgating.
  • Speeding.
  • Over taking in stupid places.
  • Drivers constantly out of their lane.

The amount of vehicles you’ll pass and their drivers aren’t even looking at you passing. Eyes always on the phone.

Not to sound sexist but a lot of women in SUV’s are either complete idiots or just not aware of the size of the vehicles they’re driving.

You then throw young inexperienced drivers into the mix in modified and big engined cars and it’s a dangerous mix too.

Either the driving tests aren’t rigorous enough or we need to be retesting people more frequently. Bad or dirty habits sink in and then mistakes happen or worse lives are lost.

Learner drivers driving without guidance and Provisional licence holders driving indefinitely without passing the Test is also mental.

A lot to be said for cameras being in all cars but Freedom fighters wouldn’t like that :man_shrugging:

People want to do a 50 minute journey in 35 minutes.

They also want to check their Instagram and send a few WhatsApp’s while they are at it.

Its a lethal mix.

Slow driving is a big problem too. Causes a serious build up of frustration.

All valid points tbf i would be in favour of a more rigorous test to get the initial licence and a retest of parts of the test every 10 years, where any part of the initial test van be tested.

Reduce the retest rate to every 5 years after 65

True.

Where I’m seeing it a lot is on motorways too. Came across a chap last week on a murky wet day, no lights on his car and probably plodding along at no more than 70km/h.

Cars were on top of him and being caught out from not being properly concentrated themselves. Lethal stuff.

I’d see lads on rural roads tipping along at 65km/h too for fucking miles.
They come to villages or towns then and never so much as slow down then in the 50km/h zones.

There are some abysmally bad drivers on the roads.

The fact that bar the Camera vans, you just don’t see Squad cars on roads isn’t helping either.

Drivers using phones seems to be a huge issue now and I’m seeing more and more drivers not looking ahead but looking down at phones as they pass.

We’ve always been bad at driving on motorways here but I’m also noticing more and more people having to get ahead of one more car and cutting in late to make exits, etc, you know they way you’re driving along with space behind you but someone has to stay in the outside lane then cut in ahead of you.
