Road Deaths

It is terrible news.

Seemingly the uncle of the child was
involved in the accident and things are fairly volatile on site at the moment.

Such a young life.

A 38 year old man killed during the night on the N18 dual carriageway at Setwrights Cross between Limerick and Newmarket on Fergus.

He was stood in the middle of the two lanes with his back to oncoming traffic. A lady on her way to the airport for a holiday hit him doing 100kph. Road closed pending technical examinations.

Ah ffs,the poor woman.Wtf was he doing out in the middle of the motorway FFS.

Whacked out of it or suicide you’d imagine… The poor woman.

Horrific. Poor parents.

Christ, and many more to come.

RIP to that poor young man. E-scooters are death traps.

Poor young fellas. Doesn’t bear thinking about for the family.

I came upon the scene this morning on my route to work. There was some damage to the front of the bus. At the time I didn’t know what was the cause of it.

Word here is it was the young fella and his younger brother on the scooter.

100%. Surprised there haven’t been more deaths.

Young lads zipping along on them at 40kmph without a helmet or a light and usually dressed all in black. No legislation on them. A kid can hop up on them and scoot on roads without any licence/lessons. Saw one on the M50 a while back.

A detective I know told me that the drugs gangs give them free to kids to work as mules, zipping in around narrow lanes and so on.

I take a negative view of any kids we have coming into school on them.

RIP to the deceased.

Rules on them were introduced about a month or two ago. You have to be over 16, you can’t use them on footpaths, stay on left hand side of road, etc.

Sure yesterday I was driving along and two lads were on, maybe 13/14, on the footpath on right hand side of the road

Parents have a lot to answer for letting their kids off on these.

No point having legislation if it is not enforced. Are the cops able to fine a 14 year old flying by on a scooter on a footpath?

I’d imagine the only power they have is confiscation?

The term parent or the connotation nowadays appears to begin with the act of conception and end once the child can run outside.

They are inherently unstable - you are standing on a narrow platform on small wheels moving at a fair speed. You can’t brace the way you do on a bike so balance is way less.

They had an orthopaedic surgeon on radio a while back who said that they see spiral fractures from falls from them.

With each technological ‘advancement’ we are going deeper and deeper into the society envisaged in Wall-E.

Used the ones in Budapest quite a bit. Excellent means to get around as they are sturdy and have designed, though usually not segregated, lanes for them.

It did give me pause for thought though when I was doing 30kph and realised I only vaguely know how to stop it
