At least weāve avoided France. Italy lurking.
Turning into a very bad draw for us.
George still doesnāt have the cop on to realise we are fucked.
Thatās ok in fairness.
Austria.
Luckily for Joe Iāve already written it.
Irish soccer supporter travels to wrong Georgia
As Ireland begin their Euro 2016 campaign in Georgia today, a fanatical Irish soccer supporter is rueing not checking the map a bit more closely. Bernard āThe Big Dā Devine travelled to the wrong Georgia and now finds himself with three days to kill in the USA.
āIād had Georgia on my mind for months. And now itās all for nothing. I feel a bit stupid to be honest.ā
āIāve been following the team for years. I never miss an away match. For months people have been telling me Georgia is tough place to get to. I was laughing at them, saying that I had a direct flight booked and it was going to be a doddle. I guess they were right, as it turns out. It is a tougher place to get to than I thought.ā
The Sallynoggin man found his hopes of attending the opening Euro 2016 qualifier had gone with the wind as he landed in Atlanta, some 5,000 miles away from Tblisi, where the Irish team play today.
āHow the hell was I supposed to know there were two Georgias?ā said Devine. āUEFA have been letting in teams from everywhere lately, some of them arenāt even in Europe. Itās their fault that Iāve ended up here, really, isnāt it?ā
Devineās mistake is the biggest Irish sporting disappointment in Atlanta since hot favourite Sonia OāSullivan infamously pulled out of the Olympic 5,000 metres in 1996.
āI donāt know what Iām going to do nowā, he said. āIāll probably look for an Irish bar to watch it in. But theyāll probably be showing that poxy hurling. Fuckinā Gah.ā
Austria. Not outrageously bad. George hasnāt a clue though - he can only reference his book of facts. Austria are still comfortably better than us.
He only knows what he is told, pal. Give George a break and start calling out the producers.
Austria, could be worse. Top seed will decide the strength of the group. We could do with avoiding heavy weight
Eire have a terrible record against Austria.
Yep. Still possible for it to be a fairly even group.
Wales or Romania please
Lovely
Wales. Ah lovely.
Wales. That aināt so bad
Wales. Get in.
Martin OāNeill has just signed a new contract.
Not badā¦ some tough away trips but fuck em.
In fairness they have dodged a few bullets.
Brilliant, top 2 seeds very favourable.
That makes it all much more palatable. There are no banker away games for any team in that group. Very even from top to bottom. Weāre probably ranked exactly where weāre seeded but very small gaps between any of those teams.
