The Cave at The Abbey. Excellent stuff.
The dialogue is absolutely amazing, so many great one liners, it felt like it was written for Tommy Tiernan (he’s excellent in it) or he helped with the writing but apparently neither is the case
I found the girls accent a bit annoying but that’s a small thing
Yeah agreed. But I got past her accent for the second half.
I saw this tonight with Mrs Barnes. I really enjoyed it. Its fairly dark but the humorous dialogue keeps it tipping along. A touch of Beckett off it. Tommy Tiernan is excellent but his brother ‘Bopper’ Aaron Monaghan steals the show.
Had good grub in Pho Kim on Parnell st beforehand and 2 lovely pints in one of @Fagan_ODowd’s s bus stops (Pipers Corner) afterwards.

The Beckett comparison is spot on, but it’s much more accessible than Beckett, Bopper has the best lines alright.
I’m tempted to try to find time to see the Weir with Brendan Gleeson, anyone been? I saw it many years ago in the opera house in Cork, Chuck from Glenroe led the cast

Sweeney Todd in Concert. NCH tonight. Concert staging of the Stephen Sondheim classic with a mix of the NSO, West End stars and young local amateurs. A really inventive staging. Magnificent in fact.

Went to see The Quiet Man in the civic this evening. I’m a big fan of Mikel Murfi and would go anywhere to watch something hes involved with so was very very excited. It’s great. It has some fantastic set pieces and brilliant physicality in parts and brilliant comedy in parts but i was slightly deflated. I’d go see it again and probably will but it felt like it left a bit behind it. Dan Gordon and Donna dent are excellent as micilín and the widow quinn, as are some of the smaller parts, but i was disappointed in peter gowen as danaher and especially disappointed in art campion as Paddy bán. Id still highly recommend as there’s more than enough genius and laughs but there was a feeling of what could have been for me.

Saw ‘Connie’ in the Theatre Royal in Limerick tonight,
An amazing production telling the story of Limerick actress Constance Smith, well worth seeing for the Limericks amongst us

‘Poor’ in the Gate Theatre this afternoon. A brilliant production and got to meet the remarkable woman herself afterwards.

How’s it looking inside? Id imagine it needed a big clean up job in getting rid of the rats etc 
I hadn’t been in there before, there was no bar or anything,
The okay was staged on the floor of the theatre rather than the stage, seating all around.
Walls are all peeling paint etc but the ceiling is beautifully freshly painted and looks great.
It’ll take a lot of money to make it a regular venue

I went to Dublin Gothic tonight in the Abbey. I had low expectations. It was absolutely epic. A massive undertaking, very well written, epic set, huge cast. A must see

The Plough and the Stars directed by Tom Creed in the Abbey at the moment is as fine a piece of work as iv seen in a long time.

Myself and Mrs Barnes went to see The Whiteheaded Boy in the Abbey last night. It was fucking brutal. A load of stage irish roaring and shouting about fuck all. No redeeming features whatsoever. We left at half time and were on high stools in The Celt listening to a lad on a banjo by the time the second half started.b

There’s a lovely sense of power in walking out of something that is utterly shite. Almost as if you’re claiming your money back by virtue of time saved.
