Went to see Borstal Boy last night. Thoroughly enjoyable I must say and as I sang along to a rousing rendition of The Auld Triangle at the end, I’m not ashamed to admit it nearly brought a tear to my eye. Would highly recommend any Dublin based posters to take in a show before it ends.
Where’s it on, pal?
The Gaiety, bro. I urge you to go along-really, really enjoyable and very funny. A must see.
I took in Howie the Rookie in the Olympia on Saturday afternoon.
I believe the script was written back in 1999 and it is basically a Dublin version of a no holds barred Irvine Welsh type of working class tale. Brilliant use of colourful language and darky funny in loads of places.
It is worth checking out if only for Tom Vaughn-Lawlor’s (aka Nidge) solo performance where he plays Howie for the first act and Rookie for the second. His sheer unrelenting manic intensity and superb comic timing was fantastic. He must be bolloxed after every show.
8.5/10.
I went to see The Borstal Boy last month based on your recommendation, @Horsebox. I found it moderately enjoyable but I wasn’t as taken with it as you. 6 out of 10 type territory in my informed* opinion.
*I starred as a shepherd in a primary school nativity play back in 1987.

Where do you suggest we go see it, mate? London or New York?.. Ya prick.
Ah it will be back in Dublin again some time. Last week was it’s second run here at least
I’m immensely looking forward to attending Gladiator in the Bord Gais Theatre this Saturday night. They are screening the greatest film ever made on a 40 ft screen with the accompaniment of a live orchestra.
C’MANNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!
For those of you with kids, this may interest you.
This fella does savage shows for kids(thoroughly enjoyable for adults too). He tours extensively throughout Ireland to lots of shitholes as well.
Was at Breaking Dad in the Gaeity tonight. Enjoyable enough Middle class comedy of manners. Like a Des Keogh/Rosaleen Linehan farce for the post Celtic Tiger generation.
Went to see ‘The man in the woman’s shoes’ tonight in the peacock. It was one of the best pieces of theatre I’ve ever seen. Sensational stuff. Mikel Murphy wrote it, stars in it and creates a hilarious, philosophical and touching show. Anyone who saw him in Ballyturk will know how good this fella is physically. He needs to be seen to be believed.
Anyone will love this, particularly country folk. Go and see it.
It’s touring all over the country in the next month or two. IT’ll hit Cork, kerry, Clare, sligo, Dun Laoghaire, bray and a shitload of other places.
Not theatre but not long out of phantom of the opera, unreal. Unbelievable.
The phantom rarely disappoints.
Unrale. I’m having a few red stripes now to even me out from the high.
? are you in the west end kid? was the lion king sold out?
I saw it before, mate. Have you seen Jersey boys? Princess is trying to get me to go tomorrow… I was on for Billy Elliot but it’s not on tomorrow.
I went to Billy Elliot last August. It was fucking deadly, mate.
I saw it a few years ago. It was pretty good alright.
I had heard… Shame.
the curious case of the dog in the night, kid.
not sure if its on sunday though
