Roisin Shortall

Not for Reilly…

Actually you could could say that Ireland became even more heavily unionised during the celtic tiger/public partnership years when the unions were given unprecedented input into government programs. Undemocratically so in my opinion. We also had a country awash with money which made it far too easy for government to acquiesce to union requests.

Even though this was a diabolical, and largely irrelevant excuse, it seems that this may not even be true. Reilly now seems to be saying that Harney didn’t choose the site.

Didn’t one of his staff give a statement saying that Shortall oversaw the drawing up of the list, and she responded she had been removed from any involvement with it months in advance? Appears to be just plain lies coming out of Reilly’s office at this stage.

He’s no option but to resign given he’s a stubborn fingal cunt he’ll hardly do that.

No Industrial Revolution>No mass concentration of labour>No labour mass movements>No popular base for left wing politics
Ya took your time. Obvious enough really when I think about it. Are there other European countries similar?

Would I be right in saying that Irish politicians are rarely if ever outwardly right wing though? They all have to pretend in public that they are ‘looking after the most vulnerable’ ie Bertie and his ‘I’m a socialist’ guff. Or would this be the case in other countries too.

Is it true too that a lot of the working/farm labourer class were more or less ran out of the country in the decades after independence?

Papers this morning are reporting that the Swords and Ballbriggan primary care sites were only added to the list of sites the night before the announcement was made and gives lie to the statement Reilly gave in the issue in the Dail.

Michael Martin is calling for Reillys resignation and Roisin Shorthall has this shown his Dail explanation to be “absolute codswallop”.

Patrick Nulty is the latest TD to leave the Labour Party. Good to see a few politicians from that party sticking to their ideologies, and that of their voters (though obviously he may have one eye on keeping his seat). Labour really are in big trouble.

Nulty statement:
“I have taken the decision to resign my membership of the Labour Party. This was difficult because I have been a member of the party for over a decade. However, it was necessary.”

“I no longer believe that membership of the party is any assistance in advancing the political ideas which form the cornerstone of my value system. These ideas are social justice, equality and the creation of full employment with quality work in our society.”

“I still have great regard for the many decent, hardworking Labour members, supporters and public representatives who share my thirst for a better Ireland. However, the leadership of the party and in particular the cabinet ministers who have sacrificed core social democratic demands for their own personal political ambitions, have brought the entire political system into disrepute.”

“Trust in our political system with citizens has been broken. This means there is a need for new ideas and social movements that are accountable to citizens not powerful interests.”

“The most recent example of the Government hitting the most vulnerable hardest is the announcement that children with special education needs will not receive the resource teaching hours they require next September.”

“The Government has imposed savage cuts to housing adaption grants specifically provided to people with disabilities who need alterations to their home. We have personal insolvency guidelines published which seek to micro manage the personal finances of hard pressed families and we have seen cuts to Child Benefit which Labour had sworn to protect.”

“These are not the actions of a party that is acting in the interests of working people and a just economic recovery. That is why I have resigned. I am optimistic about the future of our country and I will continue campaigning for the radical change that is needed.”
Labour are going to come under pressure now over the SNA cuts announced this week. Seemingly Quinn knew about this in April and sat on it until now because it was close to the summer holidays. The chairman of the labour party Colm Keavney has written to the Labour parlimentary party to have these cuts reversed.

The old FF trick. Slip it in during the summer holidays!

Labour are proving themselves to be even more servile to their masters than the greens were.
