Roland Garros is the smallest by some distance of the four Grand Slam venues too. The simple answer to your question is the French Open played in mud and wind is a poor relation to the Championship, the blue riband event of tennis. It doesn’t have the same tradition, standing or mass appeal of the Championship. Using hurling as a comparative, its like comparing hurling in the Walsh Cup in the mud in January to the business end of the Championship from late July to early September.
They say there’s four Grand Slams in tennis like they say there’s four majors in Golf. The great tennis players are measured by winning the Championship on the first Sunday in July just like the worth of a Golfer is not measured by how many US PGA titles they have, rather its all about picking up the Claret Jug as Open champion on the third Sunday in July.
I know women’s tennis should be treated with disdain but I’ve dipped into the final here. Sharapova is some cunt with her carry on. Hopefully this Halep can win the deciding set.
Sharapova was a disgrace with her carry on yesterday. Todays final is set up to be a classic.
Djokovic serving for the first set.
This looks like being an epic already. Loads of errors. A shitloads of breaks. You’d imagine if one player had superhuman stamina it would really be an advantage.
Second set to Nadal.
All over now.
It’s not.
I may have spoke too soon.
Vamos!!!
The greatest!!!
