Roma Season 2016/2017 Thread

Season has ended in a whimper which has been very disappointing. Big doubts now remain over Spallettiā€™s future and Iā€™d very disappointed to see him go. He has been very hesitant to commit and I donā€™t think all is to well behind the scenes, I hope they can come to an agreement and if they do that he is given significant backing in the transfer market. We picked up misfits from other clubs like Fazio, Juan, Vermaelen, Grenier,

The transfer policy last summer was very meager, we lost our best player of the previous season in Pjanic and the players that came in were only short gap fixes. What Spalletti has demonstrated is that he has shown good tactical awareness this season, as the season has progressed the players have looked very assured in what they do and weā€™ve tightened up at the back. He has really developed players since he has came in, Dzeko has had a terrific season, Emerson, Juan and Fazio have all done really well despite their limitations. Nainggolan has developed into one of the best midfiedlers in the world and Strootman has returned well from his injuries.

Monchi looks to be the new sporting director but I donā€™t think his work has been all that impressive, heā€™s more a wheeler dealer type chap who just makes loads of deals rather than someone with a track record of securing top talent at good deals. A poor manā€™s Sabatini for me and us being linked with a bosman move for Jesus Navas is very disheartening and ranks of the same old penny pinching that wonā€™t see us progress.

Weā€™ll no doubt look to cash in on our prized assets and use those funds to finance a plethora of stop gap deals and over the hill misfits. I can see Nainggolan and Manolas leaving, I think Manolas has had a really underpar season and would have no problem on us cashing in for the reported ā‚¬40m, if Spalletti stays he has shown what he can do with the likes of Fazio and Juan so he is replaceable. Nainggolan will be hard replaced but weā€™re apparently getting Kessie in the summer so I would imagine that means weā€™ll be cashing in on Nainggolan.

Guys like Paredes and Gerson just havenā€™t really shown it so I think we should listen to offers and bring young Pellegrini back. Attack is our biggest problem at the minute, Dzeko has done very well this season but heā€™s still very inconsistent and frustrating and we donā€™t have an alternative. Salah is so hot and cold, worth keeping but heā€™s not reliable enough to be a main man for us. Perotti is a decent player but Iā€™d listen to offers, El Sharaawy is a good squad option but heā€™s not reliable enough to be a starter here now. This is the area we need the investment in, a good back up for Dzeko and two really top quality attackers to flank him. We should be spending ā‚¬70-80m on the attack this summer.

Strootman just dived to get us a pelanty in the derby.

The most nonchalant of pelanties from DDR to put us level.

Is that DDRā€™s first derby goal?

Roma are bottling this big time, I hope they can salvage something here but itā€™s looking bad.

Lazio too good .

What do you think @Nembo_Kid, did your boys bottle it today against a local and interior rival when a win was vital to keep pressure on the leaders?

We bottled it weeks ago, mate.

Can anyone tell me who the Jackass is commentating on Eir Sport 1. Itā€™s like he canā€™t control the pitch or tone of his own voice! Commentates regularly on Eir, heā€™s comically bad.

Is it the mesmeric Richard Whittle?

Thatā€™s him! Heā€™s fucking atrocious!

Which guy? The one who says The King of Rome is not dead?

Looks like Spalletti will be going to Inter and Di Francesco to Roma.

Iā€™d worry for us next season if this is the case, Spalletti has done really well with this bunch of players. You look at the impact he has made on some of the players since coming in, Dzeko will win the golden boot, Fazio has been terrific, Juan Jesus very solid. It was a disappointing window where we targeted some rejects and tried to cheapskate. I think that the limited nature of some of these players will become apparent when Spalletti goes.

I like Di Francesco but I think we will be typical Roma next season, wildly inconsistent and a bit of a soft touch. Iā€™m preparing for another summer of us selling off the crown jewels and trying to grab a few misfits to replace them.

One bright aspect is that EDF taking over will surely mean heā€™ll be bringing Pellegrini back with him and this guy is going to be world class.

Tottiā€™s farewell this weekend.
