Season has ended in a whimper which has been very disappointing. Big doubts now remain over Spallettiās future and Iād very disappointed to see him go. He has been very hesitant to commit and I donāt think all is to well behind the scenes, I hope they can come to an agreement and if they do that he is given significant backing in the transfer market. We picked up misfits from other clubs like Fazio, Juan, Vermaelen, Grenier,
The transfer policy last summer was very meager, we lost our best player of the previous season in Pjanic and the players that came in were only short gap fixes. What Spalletti has demonstrated is that he has shown good tactical awareness this season, as the season has progressed the players have looked very assured in what they do and weāve tightened up at the back. He has really developed players since he has came in, Dzeko has had a terrific season, Emerson, Juan and Fazio have all done really well despite their limitations. Nainggolan has developed into one of the best midfiedlers in the world and Strootman has returned well from his injuries.
Monchi looks to be the new sporting director but I donāt think his work has been all that impressive, heās more a wheeler dealer type chap who just makes loads of deals rather than someone with a track record of securing top talent at good deals. A poor manās Sabatini for me and us being linked with a bosman move for Jesus Navas is very disheartening and ranks of the same old penny pinching that wonāt see us progress.
Weāll no doubt look to cash in on our prized assets and use those funds to finance a plethora of stop gap deals and over the hill misfits. I can see Nainggolan and Manolas leaving, I think Manolas has had a really underpar season and would have no problem on us cashing in for the reported ā¬40m, if Spalletti stays he has shown what he can do with the likes of Fazio and Juan so he is replaceable. Nainggolan will be hard replaced but weāre apparently getting Kessie in the summer so I would imagine that means weāll be cashing in on Nainggolan.
Guys like Paredes and Gerson just havenāt really shown it so I think we should listen to offers and bring young Pellegrini back. Attack is our biggest problem at the minute, Dzeko has done very well this season but heās still very inconsistent and frustrating and we donāt have an alternative. Salah is so hot and cold, worth keeping but heās not reliable enough to be a main man for us. Perotti is a decent player but Iād listen to offers, El Sharaawy is a good squad option but heās not reliable enough to be a starter here now. This is the area we need the investment in, a good back up for Dzeko and two really top quality attackers to flank him. We should be spending ā¬70-80m on the attack this summer.
