So Spalletti looks like he will depart tomorrow, disappointed to see him go and I think weā€™ll regress without him, his league record has been very impressive in the context of the job with restricted bugdets and selling our best players to our biggest rivals.

Assuming we beat Genoa tomorrow.

And heā€™s done this in a situation of budget restraints. We lost last seasonā€™s best player Pjanic to the champions and the money from that sale pretty much went into financing the permanent signings of Rudiger, El Sharaawy and Salah. A few serious injuries befell us as well with Rudiger, Mario Rui and Florenzi (x2) all doing their ACL and missing large chunks of the season. Digne also left at the end of his loan spell and had to be replaced.

Spalettiā€™s main triumph has been the impact he has had on the players.

Dzeko had a nightmare first season where he scored 9 goals in 39 games and was a huge flop. This season he will end with potentially 40 goals and as the top scorer in both Serie A and the Europa League. Fazio and Juan have been transformed from error strewn rejects into solid and reliable defenders. Emerson has gone from a Palermo reserve to an Italian international.

The worry I have is that without Spalletti they will now revert to type, weā€™ll probably be pillaged for the likes of Salah, Manolas, Rudiger and Nainggolan.

De Francesco will get the job and you have to admire the work he has done with Sassuolo. He has developed some very good young players there and has taken quite a few from the Roma Primavera - Pellegrini, Mazzittelli, Politano, Antei and Ricci have all came from our youth ranks and done very well under him. Indeed I think Pellegrini and Politano could do well at Roma and maybe Mazzitelli down the line too. Weā€™ll also say goodbye to Totti and possibly DDR too.

In order to retain our loan players weā€™ll be paying out ā‚¬30m if we want to retain Rui, Fazio, Juan, Grenier and Bruno Peres so I can definitely see us cashing in on a key player. Szczesny has been very good in goal for us but I canā€™t see us stumping up to get him permanently and weā€™ll likely pass the gloves to Allison.

With that in mind we will start the season weaker than last and with the two Milan clubs spending big again I think weā€™re more likely to fall back. I hope EDF is given time and brings through some homegrown players, my main worry about his is his tactical limitations. Sassuolo play a nice brand of attacking football but they are 4-3-3 everytime, EDF has little in the way of tactical variation in contrast to Spalletti who is a super tactician and was not tied to one system. Sassuolo also concede a lot of goals and Iā€™d worry for us defensively without the organisation Spaletti brought.

I would expect Inter to really push Juve all the way next season, they have a great manager coming in and money to spend, they wonā€™t have any European football to distract them so theyā€™re best placed to challenge Juve.

Hard not to think the last 10 years as a missed opportunity

Sassuolo President Giorgio Squinzi virtually confirms Eusebio Di Francesco is leaving the club, with Roma thought to be his destination.

The Neroverdi Coach has been linked with the Giallorossi throughout recent weeks, with current Olimpico boss Luciano Spalletti said to be on his way out of the Italian capital.

Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Sassuolo chief admitted his disappointment at Di Francescoā€™s decision to leave two years before the end of his contract.

ā€œI wasnā€™t expecting it, I thought the contract still meant something and that the release clause of ā‚¬3m was just a safety net,ā€ Squinzi explained.

ā€œI canā€™t keep hold of him by force. If he wants to leave, patience.ā€

The President added that talks would take place with Roma over compensation for the tactician.

ā€œDi Francesco has two more years on his contract and there is a price to pay to rescind that. We will need to talk to Roma about that.ā€

Squinzi would not reveal the names of possible replacements for Di Francesco, but he did outline the profile of Coach they are looking for.

"I donā€™t know, we need to wait. I can say that the Coach we are looking for is Italian and between the age of 40 and 50.

ā€œHe will buy into our project and bring through young players, as Di Francesco has done so well.ā€

DDR!!!

Oh fuck.

2-2.

Typical Roma.

Genoa hit the post.

Perotti!!!

Cā€™e solo un capitano.

Scoreline definitely flatters Roma. Genoa have been magnificent. Always great allies and friends of Naples and theyā€™ve not betrayed them today in their efforts.
Totti has showed flashes of brilliance. Bravo Roma.

Fitting that the future star of Italian football nets on the day one of our greatest players calls it a day.

Insigneā€™s goal today.
