As none of you probably know, I have a touch of ‘seasonal’ asthma. As a result, I was terribly excited about the World Asthma Day celebrations, which took place last Tuesday. In fact, it was a huge day for those of us who mingle in asthma circles, especially given Ronan O’Gara was scheduled to speak at an event in Cork that day organised by The Asthma Society of Ireland.
I’m reliably informed that senior society members flew down from Dublin especially to hear the Irish rugby internationalist speak. However, O’Gara simply didn’t bother turning up and never even rang to cancel/apologise. Society members were left red-faced by his ignorant no-show but still managed to come up with a press release and credited O’Gara with some quotes. See here:
It’s despicable disrespect from O’Gara and a real kick in the teeth to all us asthma sufferers to see that he wasn’t man enough to front up after Munster’s defeat on Saturday. Who are we meant to look up to now? Truly shameful stuff by O’Gara though - I heard young children with asthma were left in tears when they were told he wasn’t coming. I want answers and I won’t be able to breathe easily until I get them.
