Kelly has just told everyone to get comfortable, there are fifteen chapters in his address.
He must get paid by the word
He is knocking it out of the park for his client. He makes no apologies for it. A man’s liberty is on the line.
Mr. Kelly QC says prosecution seems to suggest the jurors weren’t helped by defence’s decision to show CCTV from Ollies nightclub. He disagrees. He tells jurors it’s up to them to decide whether it shed any light on their assessment as to the mood or mindset of the complainant.
Listening to Mr Kelly, I think the lads are innocent.
You’ve had a lovely open mind on this over the entire course of events. Its a credit to your upbringing.
I never suggested it was. I don’t think they’ll be charged at all and I have already stated that if I were on the jury, I would be hard pressed to convict Olding or Jackson of rape.
That doesn’t mean I don’t believe her and that they’re innocent - which has been my point all along -
she’s not a liar, - just the burden of proof is on her and it’s a very high burden.
Also - TFK I can show as much emotion, sympathy, morals as I want. I’m not on the jury, therefore I don’t have to believe innocent until proven guilty.
Sorry now - if the jury are to judge the case on factual evidence, or as Kelly has stated that Laganside is not a court of morals…then he pulls this outta the bag? As if a woman chatting to men on a night out and being flirty means her “mindset” was to have a threesome. Such a boring old stereotype.

This is nothing to do with pushing facts/opinions, just interesting, but my friend was telling about a lawyer from Oz who defends rapists etc. and when he was asked what he would advise his daughter to do if she was ever assaulted…
Again - stereotype. This suggests that every woman who has ever been in a bedroom with a man must want sex.
Has nobody here ever been in bed with man/woman and not had sex? And if they/you pursued would it be OK cause ye were in bed, despite any objections?
Kelly is right - the trial is about consent, not morals. But then that applies to both parties. Same as every single rape trial defence - it was consensual and now she is regretting it because she is embarrassed - so predictable.
He can outline the flaws in the evidence absolutely - but the line that she was asking for it cause she went back to a party…ugh.
Very bad move by Kelly, gives plenty more ammunition for Hedworths final comments
The Mike Pence defence.
Blane McIlroy and Stuart Olding had obviously consented to sex with Paddy Jackson, given that they regularly slept with him, by their own admission.
Kelly is giving good specifics, and ultimately I think he will win the argument - but this is outright victim-blaming - being in a room and kissing someone is not consent for sex. The law is a woman can withdraw consent at any time.
Her resting an the arm on a footballer does not mean consent to have sex with three different people.
I hope Hedworth does speak again.
They’re bizarrely close I wonder how many bedrooms were in the house - they all seemed adamant to end up in his big bed.
I think his point is that she called a halt and Jackson accepted it was over…
Called a halt when… ?
Blane made it very clear, he always sleeps in that bed when he stays over!
I know, I just think it’s funny. Everyone trying to get into that bed!!!
