Or your beloved italy
Are you going to clarify the basis for South Africa to be kicked out? Youâve already been asked this a few times? Iâve already clarified for you that the display of the pre 1994 flag of the Republic of South Africa is not a criminal offence in South Africa and such displays are in fact permitted under the freedom of speech and expression provisions in the South African constitution.
Direct us to the relevant provisions of what you are relying on? Is it in the IRB rulebook or the South African Rugby Union rulebook?
Agree 100%
Their racist fans
Can you confirm you demand Italyâs removal from International competition also
Luckily for Eire soccer types, no such hang ups about the enjoyment of a soccer World Cup, the odd time Eire make it there.
If youâre referring to the flag in Wellington in yesterday, it appears that it was one fan. Thatâs according to cricketer Pierre Joubert.
Not sure if he is downplaying it, did the other fans remove it
Ok this is interesting so youâre suggesting SA are ejected from the RWC but youâre not sure about the detail of the incident? Seems a bit hasty?
Is this the rugby or soccer world cup thread? Itâs wall to wall posts about Celtic, Shamrock Rovers, the Azzurri and Eire on here. Iâd say with football being a true global game very few incidents of ringers being played just to field a team would occur.
You couldnât be more wrong my friend. It appears to happen wholesale
Think it was just 6 of the 22 Eire players who went to the 1990 World Cup that were born in Eire. Cascarino who scored one of the penalties against Romania in the lottery wasnât even qualified to play for Eire. He was relying on a ringer grandparent. Incidentally were Eire stripped of that match when that news emerged?
Its unedifying to see you use the unfortunate circumstances of an individual, which were not known to him through no fault of his own until later life, to score cheap points. And as you will well know from cheering on lads like Jamie Heaslip and Ronan OâGara, you do not need to be born in a country to be of that country. All players representing Ireland had Irish heritage with the possible exception of Tony, in a similar way to Irish scrumhalf Marmion. Of course there are occasional rule breaks but not on the wide scale we saw with ringers in European rugby this past 12 months.
Mate???
Do you find it unedifying all the rugby haters/Eire soccer types coming onto this rugby thread and trolling what began this afternoon as a discussion about tickets for Japan next year going on sale this week?
Great to see Jeff talking about the 1990 world cup in response to rugby racism
Agreed 1 weekend. 2 high profile games,2 incidents of racism
Whether trolling or not, the highlighting of unsavoury incidents like draping the flag of the apartheid era over the players tunnel, and calling it out for the despicable action it is, serves the game of rugby much better than those who simply shrug their shoulders, state itâs not illegal and say âbut what about Celtic?â Itâs not the 1980s anymore where rugby can turn a blind eye and carry on.
But but but Tony cascarino played for Ireland
