Pom is a better 7 than Murphy. If say Pom got injured it would be stander at 6 and Conan at 8. There’s no pointing bringing 3 specialist 6s with Henderson also able to cover.
He won’t be. Stander/Pom are our 6s, Pom/jvf are our 7s and Conan/stander are our 8s. Beirne and Henderson are our cover. Toner is out of form. You need two tight head locks. Kleyn is nailed on.
POM has played v little at 7. Schmidt loves ruddock. If your argument above is valid re Henderson then Beirne has zero chance. id have Beirne in squad only becuase he covers 2nd row and back row. Henderson is a definite starter in 2nd row with Ryan
They will bring 2 x LH 3 x Hooker 3 x TH (one of whom covers LH)
4 x SR 5 x BR
= 17 fwds
3 x 9 and 3 x 10
4 x centres and 4 back three players
Bringing any more forwards than that leaves you too short of backs.
POM, Stander, Conan, VDF are definite picks in back row and one utility to cover 7.
I dont think you can afford to bring a 2nd row who cant cover back row. Henderson can do that but he will not be risked in squads outside of big games ergo beirne gets in
Toner would be more than capable of scrummaging either side against the likes of Samoa which is the games he will be getting.
All discussion assumes no injury anyway so pointless. Most likely be 2 or 3 lads ruled out with injury before the end of the month. There is about 26 of the squad pencilled in. About 8 lads vying for last 5 places.
