Rugby World Cup 2019 - Ireland shit the pot all over again

Yet the one time Ireland faced them under joe Ireland hammered them.

The one time Japan played Ireland under Joe, Joe had some lad cowardly kick the ball out of play to prevent a hammering.

Take your pasting and move on.

If my aunt had balls Mike and all that malarky

This is the problem with rubby in Ireland — they constantly get ahead of themselves, particularly those in the press reporting on them. That was a fine team but using terms like golden generation does nothing for anyone.

There’s always an excuse from the rubby crowd when it comes to the WC

The humidity was off the charts

Touch of the bandwagon about this. Never heard you criticise Schmidt before the WC.

I did it under my other username, @fuckschmidt

Ireland’s golden generation.

Golden generation or not the fact remains - in 9 “World” Cups Ireland haven’t managed to reach a single semi final.

Unbelievable achievement to beat the likes of Russia, Samoa and Italy in the group stages but they’ve bottled it every single time the pressure is on. Every single time.

They’ve some record in friendlies, though.

Yeah but they were a golden generation. No other generation can claim that title despite the fact they failed like every other generation…

The only thing golden about them was the hype.

It’s hilarious the levels of specious reasoning lads will go to and the hoops they will try to jump through to to avoid criticising the rugby team. It’s like they can’t accept simple and basic facts. The team and players have been hyped up as world class, the coach is lauded as “the best coach in the world”, ad nauseum, the players are hailed as wonderful role models and examples of good character. When they fail miserably the rugby crowd can’t accept that some or all of those narratives are wrong. Either the players are not so world class, or the coach has been a dud, or the players’ character is weak and they failed to perform when it mattered. Some or all these elements must be true, but that means the hype and marketing people have been fed and have regurgitated to each other over their points of heino must be untrue. They simply can’t accept this. This is why there is an entire culture in Irish rugby built around making excuses and avoiding criticism. Win lose or draw they are brave and heroic. It’s complete nonsense and unique to Irish rugby. None of the other rugby playing nations indulge in the same Walter Mitty-esque nonsense. I can’t even think of a similar example in any other sport. The triumph of marketing over substance that is rugby coverage in Ireland has been successful to such a degree that it has permeated the entire culture.

It’s amazing that @anon32894817 regularly lambasted the Limerick senior hurlers, who are amateurs, since the All Ireland Semi Finals, but wouldn’t apply the same standards to the rubby team.

Because criticizing the limerick hurlers annoys so many people on here while defending the Irish rugby team annoys so many people on here.

I don’t think anybody thinks the players are that good. Schdimt is world class in my opinion. I think Farrell will be a dud as a head coach.

Ok so you don’t really believe your opinions. Carry on

This place isn’t the real world.
