Is his record any better than might have been expected with the players available to him over the course of his tenure?

I think it is in fairness

Absolutely not. By large heā€™s totally over performed. Replaced o Driscoll and o Connell. Lost Jackson, Zebo and olding. Not to mind Payne and a few more retiring to injuries. Youā€™ve an awful bee in your bonnet over joe schidmt. First wins over New Zealand, first series win in South Africa and another in Australia. Plus a grand slam and two more six nations.

Heā€™s done well enough but seems to be immune to criticism. Constant ā€œgreatest coach in the worldā€ refrain in the Irish media. Iā€™d say itā€™s fair to say heā€™s done well enough. But overachieved massively? I dunno. This world cup will settle it for me. Get to a final and heā€™s the greatest coach in the world. Crash out at the quarters again and the emperor is revealed to have no clothes on, again. Reach and semi final and heā€™s pretty much achieving in line with what expectations should be.

Considerably better. Itā€™s not the most talented crop of players, particularly in the back line. Coach Schmidt has over achieved.

If you search back here fellas had Irish rugby written off after the 09 grand slam, and the 11 world cup. No players. Golden generation gone. Schmidt has all those achievements since that point

Cmere if youā€™ve an issue with the Irish media you should write a strongly worded letter to the Irish times. Weā€™re not going to be able to resolve that for you. Not like the media to overhype anything

Try to look past your dislike for the media representation of Joe and make up your own mind

This is exactly how the media, who you complain so bitterly about, will react. The truth is somewhere in the middle as always

Looked to see as never realised heā€™d have said anything publically.

FranƧois Pienaar, who led South Africa to victory in the 1995 Rugby World Cup, admitted last month having taken performance-boosting stimulants before his countryā€™s re-admission to international sport in 1992.

ā€˜I started taking pills because everyone else did. Nobody batted an eyelid,ā€™ Pienaar said. ā€˜They helped you through a hard 80 minutes if you were struggling with physical fitness.ā€™

A great day for Ireland

Heā€™s done well enough :joy: with a fairly average crop and having to take over a team breaking up in 2012 heā€™s totally transformed them. Won 2 six nations, a grand slam, beat New Zealand twice something no other Irish achieved , won a tour in oz and Australia. You think heā€™s done well enough :joy:

Youā€™d make a good media man. Total hysteria as usual. If Ireland crash out in the q/f itā€™ll be to New Zealand or South Africa. Youā€™ve a woeful agenda against joe schimdt. You seem to hate him.

They were shit at the world cup when he was in charge

Another flop and his time has been a flop

A fairly average crop?

Leinster are dominating European rugby, Munster are getting to semi finals again.

The worst thing to ever happen to Irish sport

Heā€™s actually regressed the game, not just the side. A pig.

From 2006 to 2012 Irish sides won 5 European cups. 3 different teams reached finals. From 2013 to 2019 they won one European cup. With one other final appearance. Munster have been awful for half that period along with ulster. Leinster had 3 fairly poor seasons. Sarries and Toulon have dominated European rugby under joes tenure.

If we had to play South Africa today in a world cup game theyā€™d batter the fuck out of us. And Nz would beat us by 50 points
