We kicked 5 or 6 straight down their throat aimlessly. One of them led to the first New Zealand try. We played very well in patches but just too many errors. New Zealand played on the absolute edge too. First 20 minutes they got away with an awful lot. You’d have to admire their ability to do that though.

Tonight must have been the biggest PRIME TIME Irish sporting fixture since Ireland v Italy 1994.

Saturday night, 8pm. Ireland v Italy 1994 was Saturday night 9pm.

1991 v Australia was Sunday afternoon. 1995 v France was Saturday lunchtime. 2003 v France was Saturday morning, 2011 v Wales was Saturday silly hours, 2015 v Argentina was Sunday lunchtime, 2019 v New Zealand was Saturday morning.

The rest of the 1994 World Cup was 5pm kick offs. The 2002 World Cup was morning/lunchtime, Euro 2012 was a washout, Euro 2016 didn’t have a Friday/Saturday/Sunday night match. Maybe the Italy game on a Wednesday night was PRIME TIME but it was still a weeknight.

Is he drunk on fast food again?

I don’t know. Another Grand Slam will arrive in 2025 but realistically you’d trade it all in to have won here. Hopefully Andy Farrell stays on. He got a great tune out of what looked like a middling Irish team in early 2021. That Welsh team were better than average in 2011 to be fair. They should have beaten France too in the semi’s even with 14 men.

The team doesn’t need counts like him on their case

How did Keith wood end up beside Eddie Jordan?

It’s an 8 team competition at best , surely to god we run into some team in a 1/4s that we beat ?? We’re 40 years trying by that stage .

Because his missus was sitting there

Draw this time was abysmally unlucky but you must perform to win.

Yes statistically we’re likely to eventually make a semi final at some stage.

It was the Grand Prix section.

Would take it.

Ireland got close in a quarter final tonight for the first time since 1991 so that’s definitely progress. They were soundly beaten in the 5 quarter finals since 1991 prior to tonight.

Are lads over-egging who’s going to retire or not be involved at next WC?

Have a go at what kind of team you think will be competitive going forward

They are close enough mates I think, have seen them pictured together a good bit.

Doris went missing twice v La Rochelle in the past two years.

He was poor again tonight.

You’d just wonder about him at times. A bit of a flat track bully.

It’s not a big stretch to say Kellerher/Sheehan/Ryan, beirne, Baird, big Joe, Henderson, Doris and jvdf will all be there next time.

Sexton, Aki, O’ Mahoney, Beirne, JGP, Murray, Henderson, Lowe and probably Henshaw gone anyway for 2027. Ringrose will be in veteran territory pushing 33 by that stage. Furlong might be hanging on a as a Dave Killer type finisher by that stage. Plenty of talent coming through though so it’s far from doom and gloom. Out-half is probably the most difficult vacancy to fill. Hopefully Crowley and Prendergast turn out to be good.
