A magnificent rendition of Die Stem. Remember well watching it. Not too many Rainbow Nations flags on show in Ellis Park in 1992.
I remember a match between Ireland and Australia at Lansdowne Road some years ago. There was either a try from Australia or Ireland nearly got a try near the end. It was in the corner and I remember a lot of the crowd were terribly excited. I do remember Australia won. It may have been a semi final.
I also remember a game in 2011, I think it was between Wales and New Zealand, although I could be wrong. I watched it in the Dominican Republic after buying a few bags of personal from a local. It was during the 48 hours I was pots and pans, or the 24 hours after when I found it hard to leave the room to deal with real people that this was on the telly. I don’t know who won.
When @anon98850436 wore a T Shirt with “NO ANTHEM. NO FLAG. NO THANKS” printed on the front and back into Duffys of Malahide when Ireland were playing some crowd 8 years ago.
I’d say the bants from that was outstanding.
Not a World Cup one but possibly my all time favourite.
Myself and a group of offline friends were in Fowlers and Munster were playing a Heineken quarter or semi I think. Place was packed and there was the usual roaring at the TV and then silence for the kicks.
We had been given the remote control earlier in the day to switch between ATR and RUK.
Anyway, it was a close game and nearing its climax when O’Gara had a penalty to put Munster in front. O’Gara stepped back. The pub fell silent. O’Gara stepped forward and then @croppy switched the TV off
Cue bedlam.
Whats ATR and RUK?
TV channels
Never heard of em. As they like DCTV? I’d say the boys were seething when Ray Shah popped up.
ATR is something to do with air traffic control.
RUK is a rugby-dedicated TV channel.
I initially thought RUK was some sort of gay porn channel. Could still be mind you.
That would have been a better story if it involved a petrol bomb.
France v Ireland, 2003 quarter-final.
I remember George Hook’s Friday preview of that weekend’s quarter-finals. George was adamant that “this is most certainly the only quarter-final where the result is in doubt”.
My memory (which I’ve confirmed by looking briefly at the below link) is that the score after 48 minutes was France 37 Ireland 0. Meanwhile, Wales nearly beat England the following day and Scotland seriously rattled Australia too.
Offline friends?
You Jammie fucker. Wish I had offline friends.
Probably 1991
Geo Cronje been kicked out of the Springbok squad for the 2003 World Cup for refusing to share a room, or use the same a shower as coloured teammate Quinton Davids.
Whats an ‘as shower’?
What’s
Too Sé
I thought his use of ‘been’ rather than ‘being’ was a far more egregious error.
