Russia Vs Ukraine (Part 1)

There’s two sides to it.

We hear daily about Russian propaganda which has merit but these people who pedal this line same alien to the western propaganda we have on a daily basis here.

Nonsensical comparison, no similarities.
As regards the Cuban Missile Crisis, first of all he walked the violence all the way up to the top of the hill and convinced Khrushchev that he was willing to bomb him, then he walked down again and de-escalated. Khrushchev was having a complete mental breakdown, Putin isn’t in that position yet.

You absolutely are. Where is anybody advocating all out nuclear war? They aren’t. You’re confabulating.

It takes seven people in a chain of command in the UK to fire a nuclear warhead from a submarine.
Not sure what the situation is elsewhere.

If you launch nuclear missiles you don’t win the war though. There’s nothing left.

That’s always been the balance and understanding but it depends on rational leaders of the nuclear powers.

China will probably be the ones to mediate a solution here. They can’t sell stuff to a radioactive wasteland.

Ireland stood idly by while their own citizens were being burned out of their homes and murdered in their own country.

You think?

This doesn’t sound good.

The presence of the convoy, growing and intact, prompts several conclusions as things stand. Despite its scale and the way it has blocked the road for miles, it appears largely unmolested. This suggests Ukraine’s air force is no longer sufficiently intact to target it in a meaningful way and that Ukraine has not been able to bring drones, used successfully elsewhere, to hit it.

They did. Including protestants in cork.

Russia’'s economy has been tanking since 2014. Did that put Putin off invading Ukraine (again)?

Economics have nothing to do with it. In fact if you read your history you will see that there is largely a negative relationship between economics and deluded imperial wars of conquest. Imperial wars of conquest distract from disastrous economic performance.

The Cuban Missile Crisis is not remotely comparable. Cuba wanted to bring in Soviet nuclear missiles and point them at the US. Of course the US wouldn’t stand for that. A sensible compromise was reached and the missiles were removed in return for US missiles being removed from Turkey. The US has left Cuba alone as a communist state for the last 60 years.

Ukraine was a neutral country with no nukes and no missiles pointed at Russia. Nor do the countries in eastern Europe which actually are in NATO. Whereas Russia DOES have nukes pointed at us, in Kaliningrad.

All Ukraine wanted was to be left alone and steer its free democracy down the path it wanted. Russia would not allow that because Putin denies the right to existence of Ukrainian state and demies the right to existence of a Ukrainian people.

The situation we now find ourselves in is not remotely like the Cuban missile crisis. The situation we now find ourselves in is the same as the one when the Nazis invaded Poland. Except the Nazis now have nukes.

If you think the west should have just capitulated and made peace with Hitler on September 3rd, 1939, just come out and say it.

There have been territorial claims the world over since Jesus was a boy. I believe this one starts and ends with Ukraine due to culture, geography, history etc. I dont think this akin to the spread of the third Reich as it has been painted to be. And I temper that by saying that Putin has used rhetoric like de nazifying Ukraine in recent days. He is operating in his box at the moment and not attacking NATO countries. It is not hyperbolic to say that It could be the end of much of western civilisation if we open that particular Pandoras box. When faced with 2 horrific vistas like that you have to be a pragmatist.

Where do you think an escalation and NATO intervention will lead us to?

You seem to be ignoring that fact.

There’s a lot of people here acting in bad faith, there’s a Western agenda at play where people are trying to pivot themselves as being for saving lives and ridding of evil when they have turned a blind eye to the war crimes the “Free World” has committed to put evil dictators in power or to keep their economic interests in alignment halfway across the world.

Will you call for military intervention from the West in Israel and Saudi Arabia with the same vigour as you are with Russia?

Putin is literally telling you it is the same.

An uneasy truth and it shows the bad faith these people engage with.

The Americans agreed to move their nuclear weapons away from the russian border, so long as the russians agteed not to install nuclear weapons close to the US. The Russians even had the decency to give the yanks the bragging rights.

I’m not ignoring that fact, but whereabouts do you draw the line? By your current reasoning we may all apply lube and bend over for russian troops otherwise Vlad might launch a nuclear missile. The nuclear deterrent only works if it er deters people. To deter people, they have to be made to fear the consequences.

Mad to see Sidney’s pivot to a warmongering Uncle Sam fanatical.

Mad to see you in full appeasement mode to a foreign Invasion.

I’m only calling for consistency. Why is what’s been done to Ukranians by Russia worse that what the Sauds are doing in Yemen, Israel in Palestine, the US all across the middle east and Central America for decades? What is so special and unprecedented about this? Nothing, it’s another superpower trying to overthrow a sovereign nation for the purpose of influence and control. Yet it’s only here we are talking about unprecedented reactions to it. I see the hypocrisy.
