Do you think the opposing view in Russia might be to invade more of Europe?
Some crew from Connemara or Donegal involved no doubt with busting the concrete, or taking it away.
I wouldnt have a clue of my history but the USSR sounds iconic.
Who knows. Who cares? An army coup maybe. A conventional clash with NATO would mean the annihilation of the Russian armed forces.
Well it’s not like it’s a democracy. But i doubt that putin is an outlier, or the most hawkish of the possible candidates.
The US state department has reportedly urged US embassies in Europe not to share a tweet posted by the US embassy in Kyiv calling the attack on the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant by Russia a war crime, CNN reports.
Earlier today the US embassy in Kyiv said attacking a nuclear power plant is a war crime after Russian forces seized Europe’s biggest nuclear power plant on Friday in heavy fighting in southeastern Ukraine, triggering global alarm.
CNN has reviewed an “urgent” message from the US state department to all US embassies in Europe telling them not to retweet the US Embassy Kyiv’s tweet.
All – do not/not retweet Embassy Kyiv’s tweet on shelling of the facility being a possible war crime.
If you have retweeted it – un-retweet it ASAP.
The message is an indication that the US government may not be endorsing the war crime allegation made by the embassy, the news channel writes.

Drivers and trucks needed if lads want to volunteer
Dear Kilmacud Crokes Member,
As the Russian military invasion of Ukraine has unfolded we have all seen the horrific scenes and impact this is having on the people of Ukraine and their country. Lives are being torn apart by violence, displacement, trauma, insecurity and separation from loved ones.
Tens of thousands of families are being forcibly displaced or have had their homes destroyed. Thousands more are fleeing in search of safety. Right now, the humanitarian needs are huge and are likely to increase.
Beacon Hospital stands with Ukraine and we want to do everything we can to help. We are working closely with charities and organisations (Including GOAL, The Red Cross, Chernobyl Children’s Project International Kilkenny Group, Rehasport Foundation-Ukraine based charity the Ukrainian Embassy and more), doctors, hospitals and the WHO to co-ordinate the delivery of emergency supplies to Ukraine. We have already dispatched trucks of medical supplies but there is so much more they require.
We have had many people in the area contact us to see how they can help. In order to support the collective effort of everyone in the community we have put together an extensive plan, which is evolving each day to meet the ever-changing situation.
Here is how you can show your support:
Donate General Supplies
We are collecting general supplies and have a designated collection area at the hospital – Main Ambulance Bay. Please do all you can to support the collection of the following items:
- Toiletries
- Sanitary products
- Head lights / torches
- Sleeping bags
- Tinned foods or dry foods * Baby nappies
- Wipes
- Hats
- Small items for Children
soft toys / colouring books / pencils
Source Medical Supplies
We have already sent out many trucks of medical supplies but still need your help sourcing and collection some urgent essential medical items. The full list of medical supplies required is available on our website www.beaconhospital.ie. If you have any contacts within pharmacies or medical supply companies, can you please make direct contact with them to see if they can donate any of the items on this list.
Drop off Point:
Supplies to be donated can be dropped to our collection point at the hospital Ambulance Bay entrance 24/7 including weekends.
For large deliveries or pallets, contact Damien Meaney on 087 188 8532
Sourcing Truck Drivers and Trucks
In order to collect donated stock and get these essential supplies to a safe location in Poland, we require trucks and truck drivers. Supplies are being donated from all around Ireland but in many cases, they don’t have the ability to deliver these to collection points. We urgently require trucks and drivers that can assist with these collections week days and weekends.
For delivery of supplies to Poland, trucks and truck drivers are required to travel across on the ferry and into Poland. They need to drop off these essential supplies to safe locations set up by the charities and doctors we are working with there. Our contacts are then co-ordinating the transportation into Ukraine and distribution to those displaced.
Donate Funds
Funding is also urgently needed to pay for the transportation of supplies to the Ukraine. This will cover the cost of fuel and ferries which is quite substantial. All financial donations are welcome no matter how big or small. Bank details for donations our on our website – please ensure you put “Ukraine Appeal†as the reference when making any payments.
Refugees:
Although currently somewhat unclear, we do know that there will be a lot of Ukrainian refugees arriving in Ireland. These people will need accommodation, jobs schools and help settling in. We hope to be able to contribute to this process.
We have set up an information section on our main hospital website. Enquires can also be emailed to Ukraine@beaconhosptial.ie.
Many thanks to you all for your show of support for Ukraine. I am confident that collectively we can make a positive impact at this exceptionally devastating time for the people of Ukraine.
Kind regards
Michael Cullen
Beacon Hospital CEO
I had more pressing duties than Joe today so I can’t comment but I’m prepared to take your word for it.
He gets some strange, opinionated folk most days, many of whom are attention seeking do-gooders.
Some days it’s a microcosm of this place with lads shouting at each other. Gas - innit.
