They’ve never had a full chastening experience. There’s been a few humiliating military defeats but the place is so big and has had so many autocrats that when they’ve happened the average Russian probably wasn’t aware or he bigger issues to deal with.
It would see to be American and British exceptionalism on steroids. The US had Vietnam for example, how would the average Russian view the Afghanistan invasion I wonder?

Kappa announced they were pulling out last week.
The owners of the Auchan/Leroy Merlin/Decathlon group were continuing to operate. People are starting to boycott their shops here. Think they might be reconsidering their position.

this situation is Bucha is horrendous. And then you have the Russian media and bots and the conspiracy allies calling it fake, or that it was done by the Azov. The Azov seem to be some sort of boogeyman set up. They were in East Ukraine, all 900 members. Then they were in Mariupol, trapping in their own people whilst the Russians bombed them. Now they apparently are the ones in Bucha, 800kms away and killed their own people after the Russians left.
Or that it is a false flag. Or actors. Russia have invaded a country, they have bombed and killed thousands. They have killed civilians and terrorised Ukrainian people.
But yet we are supposed to believe that the town that they took that has been destroyed and people killed and maimed was not them at all, that it was either a) fake, b) actors, c) Azov killing their own or something else.

They claim there’s videos of the dead moving or getting up after the camera moves on … Full of Russian bots on twitter pushing it. American right wingers lapping it up.
What’s the point of these sanctions? Were they an attempt to inflict a short term hit on the russian economy with the aim of encouraging a revolution? That looks to have failed. Long term they will have little effect bar making russia switch from selling to a small handful of western democracies to supplying and eager india, china, Africa etc. Meanwhile they’ll probably cause a few years of significant firther hardship or famine in africa and india, and disgruntled consumers in the west.
Or are they partly motivated by a simple moral imperative? If so what is the morality of america rraping the awards of arming Ukraine with sufficient arms to blled themselves out simply to harm russia economically and militarily.
Long term it looks like russia and whatever parts of Ukraine etc it can grab will end up behind an iron curtain, the age of global interdependence is over, the arms race will be kicked up several notches and military spending will soar.
I appreciate that there will be implications for a possible strengthening of a china/russia alliance…but @mikehunt will guide us in yhese complex matters.
