I was pleased to hear incoming UK PM Liz Truss say she’d be prepared to use nuclear weapons against Russia if necessary.
Truss will obviously be an appalling Prime Minister but that’s a Churchillian statement and very welcome.

If Putin decides to use nuclear weapons the west should respond in kind and then some and be up front that it will do so.
There’s no point in having nuclear weapons otherwise. You have to state explicitly that you are prepared to use them.
Again, this is an example of basic deterrence.
Basic deterrence would have prevented this war. That’s what being a member of NATO is. That’s why NATO boots should have been in Ukraine before this war - because then it wouldn’t have happened. I got called a warmonger for advocating for the basic measures which would have prevented the war.
