Russia Vs Ukraine (Part 1)

Lads clearing out whats left of the beer after the weekend

Putin was about as scared of Trump as Jonny Cooper was of the winners of Carlow v Wicklow when he was asked for a reaction at the live TV championship draw five or six years back.

Putin is scared now though, scared big time.

The US wants to see russia bogged down with what they and russia will see as an endless guerilla or terrorist conflict. Zelensky understands his role in this and he’s happy enough to play along. He doesn’t give a fuck about the donbas and its people- he told Ukrainians to get out of there in april and previously told the russian population to go to russia- for the sake of their children, and it’s effectively russian as things stand. The idea of Ukraine liberating it is laughable- they banned official use of the russian language, ‘russian’ politicians and russian media…in some cases before this recent chapter in the conflict started. If the Ukrainian army had a free rein there you could expect the worst.
The off ramp is for the UN to step in, for putin and biden to start talking and for someone to propose peace talks. None of these look feasible though- three agreements have already been scuppered by the west, besides zelensky has ruled out negotiating with putin. The obvious compromise was for an independent Eastern Ukraine with Ukraine itself having access to the ports. This was already agreed, but not implemented.
Things are going exactly as intended- america has simply opened up a second flank in the war in syria…but with Ukrainians to do the dying. Lads on here would be morally outraged if it was any other way.

How did that happen pal?

A great friend of mine was born with two detached retina’s just out of bad luck.

It is genuinely an awful station. Good luck with it sincerely.

It just happens. I’m short sighted which increases the risk. Started getting a few floaters, black dots a little bit like seeing flies in the left eye after a long walk on the 7th of August. Didn’t think too much of it. Got a couple of lightning bolts through the eye when I’d close it late on the Sunday night 15 days ago. Nothing much on the Monday. Woke up pretty much blind in that eye on the Tuesday. 11 days over having it operated on now, still have a gas bubble in my eye and wavy vision outside the bubble which is causing a bit of double vision. Just about tolerable but irritating. Surgeon said recovery is going “perfectly” on Friday morning but I hae me doots, as they say. I’m not a very patient sort at the best of times.

But why mention it? The only solution here is the defeat of Russia and their delusions of Empire. That’s it.

Pretending that there a geopolitically sound solution to this is bullshit. Again, that ship sailed in February.

Hard to argue with this.

Are you still pushing for NATO to bomb Russia?

Of course the west has responded, Ukraine is strategically very, very important in a world where the west is losing its influence on the world.

Would be the cleanest solution alright but we’ll have to wait until Russia encroaches on NATO territory. Which will happen eventually, unless defeated here.

Huh? Obama was more interested in China and not NATO and that turned out to be a big mistake.

The “West” will be the preeminent power until China liberalises as a proper democracy. Same with Russia.

The only people who want to live in or aspire to live in those those two shitholes long term are those within their “spheres of interests”.

Really? Zelensky and putin had a peace deal worked out in april. You really haven’t a clue.
And what would a defeat of russia look like for ethnic russians in eastern Ukraine? What sort of solution would that be?

What do you mean by this?

Why does that matter?

You reckon?

How long term?

How does that filter through to his “alternative EU” vision?

You call for nuance but ignore recent history (when convenient).

Again the problem here is Russia and their delusions. Lord Halifax thought he was tremendously nuanced too.

It means absolutely nothing.

The UN couldn’t stop this before, it couldn’t stop it since. He wants to put this down to a Zelensky/NATO thing when the reason is Russia. It is always Russia.
