Ryder Cup 2014 - Gleneagles, Scotland
I understand the Ryder Cup captaincy is an honorary non paying position. Presumably though there’s serious opportunity to cash in on this if you’re a European winning captain, particularly for someone like McGinley when you have the likes of Des Cahill as one of the hottest properties on the Irish corporate speaking/after dinner circuit.

Anyone any insight as what this could be worth to McGinley if Team Europe could somehow win it, in spite of him?
You boring cunt.

Team Batt beaten 3&2

We’re up in the other 3 games

Projected Score - You’re Up 6-6 USA

Sensational performance by Justin Rose as Europe take the first game 3&2 and move into a 6-3 lead. America are up in the other 3 games however and we could be tied at the end of the session. Over 70 birdies already this morning, the standard is much higher than yesterday.

Jim n Hunter close it out 4&3

Reed and Spieth win 5&3 Kaymer and Bjorn were just level par better ball. Poulter is struggling big time too and McIlroy is holding Fowler and Walker at bay as the Americans are 1 up heading to the 15th.

Spreed win 5&3.

Come on Rickie & Jimmy. Let’s level it up

Rose and Stenson are singlehandedly* keeping us in it.

*They have four hands between them.

My word. That’s the real Ian Poulter.

Crucial chip in from Poulter on the 15th with Fowler poised to put the Yanks 2 up with 3 to play. Fowler holds his nerve to halve the hole and we’re as you were as they head to the 16th.

Stenson has a back problem and won’t be out in the foursomes.

Rose teams up with Kaymer to face Spieth and Reed.

Mickelson and Bradley have been rested too, strange call from Tom Watson.

Poulter birdies the 16th to level it up with 2 to play

The sheer folly of McGinley selecting Gallacher ahead of Luke Donald has now been admitted by the captain himself. Gallacher will be the only European player not to feature today and that follows his calamitous display yesterday.

The final match is all square after 16.

Auld Tom made a worse error leaving the red hot Billy Horschel at home for the hapless Webb Simpson, who has also been snubbed today.

What are the pairings for the afternoon gentlemen?

Advantage Europe on the 17th, McIlroy in best position while Fowler is in the bunker and Walker in the rough.

Zach Johnson/Matt Kuchar (USA) v. Jamie Donaldson/Lee Westwood (EUR)
Hunter Mahan/Jim Furyk (USA) v. Sergio Garcia/Rory McIlroy (EUR)
Patrick Reed/Jordan Spieth (USA) v. Martin Kaymer/Justin Rose (EUR)
Jimmy Walker/Rickie Fowler (USA) v. Victor Dubuisson/Graeme McDowell (EUR)

Horschel won his two high profile tournaments after the wild card picks were made. Trying to curry favour with the Jockos over selecting a brilliant Ryder Cup player in Donald was utterly ridiculous, as I mentioned at the time.

Fowler sinks an 8 footer to halve the hole and it’s level going down the last, gripping stuff.

Donald only has himself to blame, he wasn’t playing well enough to warrant being selected.

That’s excellent, decisive captaincy by the five times Open champion, contrasting sharply with McGinley’s blundering buffoonery. Tough decisions have to be made and Captain Watson is the man to make them. You can be sure the former US Open champion Simpson will be absolutely chomping at the bit for the singles tomorrow.
