He kept us competitive at a decent level there for a long time though with his sheer volume of goals. I’d shudder to think where we would have been between 2007 and 2012 without him. He saved us the embarrassment of defeat at home to Georgia in 2009 with two poachers goals.
Although having said that when he did start to decline the results weren’t greatly different and MON actually took us to the Euros in 2016 with Robbie only on the bench. I think he actually had a half-chance near the end of that 2-1 defeat to France.
Don’t get me wrong. I loved Robbie. He was just a bit windy.
His goalscoring record is phenomenal really. 1 in 2 at international level really is world class
If Kenny had Robbie now a lot of those losses would be wins. The margins are so tight outside the top 10/12 teams in international football it comes down to having someone who can put the ball in the goals
I saw his Gary Neville soccer box interview recently some of the goals he got in the PL were absolutely sensational. If he was at his peak in the content era he would have broke the irish internet. Really loved playing for Ireland too. He had a bit of bizarre club career though. The inter Milan and Liverpool moves were both odd.
Nat Collins instead of Richard Keogh I’d say. Gav Baz versus 2016 Randolph would be a fairly 50-50 call I suppose but Bazunu definitely has the greater potential so he’d get the nod. Michael Obafemi would offer more pace up front than Slab Murphy in 2016 too.
No Collins would 100% have gotten in the team. He is going to be world class, I have zero doubt of this. Obafemi could be a very good player, I actually wish he was more selfish, his pass to Parrott last night was perfect, it should be basic but amazing how many times it is butchered, bar one poor lay off he was excellent for the sixty minutes.
The one thing i find absolutely nuts is how Crawford is playing Lee O’Connor ahead of Ebosele. The keeper Maher is an absolute bomb scare it has to be said.
He has 7 caps mate… potential and all. Id have put dunney in ahead of Gary Breen alright but then breen was like Franz Beckanbauer at the world cup. Stan Staunton was a legend
Switzerland were better than Denmark. They knocked France out of the Euros ffs. 2 quality teams and thinking failing to beat either was a big letdown is delusional in the extreme
