Scottish Football (SPFL, Scottish Cup, Bet Fred Cup, Tunnock’s Caramel Wafer Challenge Cup)

After the mini slump of just 7 points from 6 games since hammering Glasgow Celtic at Tynecastle at the end of October, that feels like a big win for Heart of Midlothian at Celtic Park today.

I’d be interested to hear the views of contributors who eat, sleep and breathe all matters soccer related in Scotland like @Bandage, @starryplough and @Jake_Stevens as to whether the Jambos can go on now and bridge the 66 year gap to their last League of Scotland win in 1960.

I think they have as good a chance as they’ve had in years, probably since the Albert Kidd season in reality. I’ll actually go against the prevailing jocko media narrative & say I reckon their manager will ultimately count against them. I think he’s a bit of a dinosaur & Jamestown are providing him with some good players he doesn’t really know how to utilise. I think the physicality, set pieces, knock it long, win second balls stuff suits the other half of the squad but it lends itself to lots of scrappy games of chance. They came out on the right side of it today but my tentative prediction is they’ll end up third, despite Celtic & Rangers being different shades of shit.

You’ve painted Coach McInnes there as a League of Scotland version of Thomas Frank.

It will be their best chance ever. Will depend on what the story is with Nancy and how they recruit in January. They’d be mad not to strengthen again

The Huns had a decent away win at killy.

Heart of Midlothian beat Falkirk 0-2 at Brockville to move 6 points clear of Glasgow Celtic at the top of the table.

Rangers edge closer to Celtic as they defeat Hibernian FC 1-0 at Ibrox Park.

Celtic may have declined to Roll With It but Rangers have decided to Rohl With It.

That’s a beautifully worked goal off a corner by Heart Of Midlothian to take the lead against Rangers in the battle of the two title contenders. A picture goal.

I have a load of Irish language stuff blaring in the background so I don’t know any of the players involved in the goal. Some fella called Finlay possibly.

Ah keeper

Heart Of Midlothian 2 Rangers 0.

Jack Butland gets out the way of Lawrence Shankland’s shot from an acute angle and lets it through his near post like an England batsman obligingly letting an Australian medium pace delivery through to his stumps.

Rangers very unlucky to have an earlier goal ruled out by VAR.

Insidious VARtican influence.

Clearly offside, no?

That’s been a terrific advertisement for British footballl.

Hearts are prolific from set pieces.

Good game.
For all the Tony Bloom talk the way Hearts attack crosses is making them very strong. Great ball in for the first goal though from Kyziridis who is one of those signings.

Vatican Assisted Referee as the huns like to call it.

Shankland just missed a gilt edged chance on the hour to make it 3-0.

Could there be a sting in the tail?

Glasgow Celtic badly need a favour here from Glasgow Rangers. They’re not looking likely to provide it though.

Heart of Midlothian to be top of the table on Christmas Day. What’s the recent record like of teams top of the table in the League of Scotland on Christmas Day not winning the title?

The last non-Old Firm team to be Christmas Top Of The Scotchpops was Aberdeen in the 1993-94 season.

Kenny having another mare. He’s not near the level I’m afraid.

Lacks all confidence. He’s never going to be top quality. But for his own sake he needs to back himself more and forget about his misses.
