Heart of Midlothian have 12 points from 12 now from games against Glasgow Celtic and Glasgow Rangers beating both home and away.
If the Jambos can’t go on and win the league now and break the 41 year stranglehold of the Glasgow duo with both in turmoil and both having had two change of managers each so far this season, they could nearly disband the tournament once and for all.
I’d love to see the Jambos go and do it for one of their greatest supporters, Sir Chris Hoy, cc @Bandage
The Scottish league is box office this season. I still had Celtic & Rangers down to finish ahead of Hearts before today, but I think Hearts will finish in the top two now. That was a massive win today - stating the obvious I know - & the recent victory at Celtic Park seems to have restored their confidence after a wobble before that (7 points from 6 games). Big Edinburgh derby to come next weekend now.
Rohl had stabilised Rangers, at least domestically, & they’d 6 wins & 2 draws from his 8 league games before today. Now he’d taken pumpings in Europe & lost a League Cup semi final to Celtic but there was a narrative developing that they were engineering themselves back into the title race. I’d mentioned how they were outperforming xG at both ends & not necessarily playing well but he seemed pragmatic & they’d benefited from a favourable set of fixtures.
So today was a huge setback for them & a real statement win for Hearts. The way the Scottish media works, & in Glasgow in particular, this one game could change perceptions on Rohl & pressure could come on him. I’m seeing stuff this evening questioning him & saying he hasn’t won a big game yet & so on. The transfer window will also be crucial for the top 3, & Rangers too.
Bandage…but a very rare poster. I posted regularly on the huddleboard but I was harshly banned in around 2015 for not being all singing & dancing towards Ronny Deila.
Even now when I post a passionate defence of Sam Pender & ridicule Jack Crowley, there’s a massive risk someone will bump the post in 2034 & cite it as evidence I was watching rubby when I was doing nothing of the sort.
World class first half display by Jamie McGrath in the Edinburgh derby so far. A tidy finish followed by a terrific assist for a wonderful Josh Campbell header. 2-0 Hibs at half time.
