Scottish Football (SPFL, Scottish Cup, Bet Fred Cup, Tunnock’s Caramel Wafer Challenge Cup)

4-2 to the Teddy Bears. Consolation for celebrity Rangers fan Niall Ferguson after he made a fool of himself calling for war on Iran.

Teddy Bears unbeaten in 15 league games in 2026. They have all the momentum now. Danny Rohl has done some job and he comes across as a really top bloke as well. Quite the turnaround since Martin O’Neill dismissed the Teddy Bears as absolutely no threat in the title race back in October when he was first appointed.

The Motherwell collapse continues. They lose 2-3 at home to John McGlynn and his Bairns.

I didn’t see much football yesterday, as it was Easter Sunday (cc @ChairmanDan).

6 games left now & it’s:

Hearts 67
Rangers 66
Celtic 64

Last round before the split:
Hearts v Motherwell & Celtic v St Mirren on Saturday,
Falkirk v Rangers on Sunday.

Hearts have 3 home & 3 away
Rangers have 2 home & 4 away
Celtic have 4 home & 2 away

Hearts host Rangers & travel to Celtic
Rangers have both Hearts & Celtic away
Celtic host both Hearts & Rangers

Perceived ease/difficulty of fixtures often doesn’t follow logic at this stage. Hearts losing & drawing at second bottom & bottom in their last two away games. Celtic losing at woefully out of form Dundee United in the round before this latest one. Rangers have stabilised with 3 wins since throwing away a 2-goal lead at home to Celtic & losing in the cup to them in successive weeks.

Goal difference is the killer for both Celtic and Hearts. Pains me to say it but I can only see one winner…

Celtic have too many players off the boil right now and there’s just shite.they are absolute garbage in midfield regards getting a foothold in a game . Doesn’t matter where they play Hearts or rangers , both have beaten them in Celtic park .

Those two defeats came under Wilfried Nancy.

You only need to win a football match by one goal. Celtic are quite good at doing that under Martin O’Neill.

The 2007/08 run in is an object lesson in how late goals and fine margins decide titles.

Engels is back in training. Celtic badly need Araujo back as he has become the emotional heartbeat of the team. Get those two back and you wouldn’t know what could happen. Rangers’ away form is not that hot and four of their remaining six games are away.

Bottom line is, if Celtic win the six matches, they win the title. That’s a very tough ask, but when the mind is concentrated anything can happen.

In some ways the biggest impediment to Celtic winning the title is the Green Brigade being banished. The atmosphere at Celtic Park since that happened has been morgue like and it has cost points.

The weekend will be very interesting and I think there’ll be points dropped.

Falkirk won’t be easy for the huns on Sunday, McGlynn will have them up for it although they’ve probably been on this piss since securing 6th spot on Saturday.

Motherwell could take points off Hearts on Saturday.

Celtic should have too much for St Mirren at Celtic Park.

Just saw there on the news that the Irish Government is running an Easter Road Safety Campaign.

Why would the Irish Government be so preoccupied with safety at a Scottish football ground?

Surely that’s the domain of the Scottish Government?

Out of the teams that can mathematically still win the Fine Fare Scottish Premier Division this season, my order of preference is as follows:

1 Celtic
2 Hibernian
3 Motherwell
4 Rangers
5 Heart Of Midlothian

Imminent release of post split fixtures likely to lead to paranoia & accusations of favouritism. They’ve rarely (never?) had to play for 3 teams still being in the mix. When will they fix the derbies? Usually early enough post split so they’re not “decisive” due to security/policing concerns. Despite that, will they hold a Celtic-Hearts or Hearts-Rangers match til the last day or have all 3 teams playing separately?

Ooofffttt.

I reckon it’ll be something like the following.

Round 34
H/O Midlothian v Rangers
Hibs v Celtic
Falkirk v Motherwell

Round 35
Celtic v Rangers
Motherwell v H/O Midlothian
Falkirk v Hibs

Round 36
Hibs v H/O Midlothian
Rangers v Motherwell
Celtic v Falkirk

Round 37
Rangers v Hibs
Motherwell v Celtic
H/O Midlothian v Falkirk

Round 38
Falkirk v Rangers
Celtic v H/O Midlothian
Hibs v Motherwell

This fixture list does the following:
It gives all of Heart Of Midlothian, Rangers, Celtic, Motherwell and Hibs 19 home and 19 away fixtures.

Falkirk would have 20 home and 18 away.

All the major clashes - ie. the ones between Celtic, Rangers, Heart Of Midlothian and Hibs, are evened up at 2 home and 2 away.

Celtic will have Falkirk at home for the third time and Heart Of Midlothian will also have Falkirk at hoime for the third time.

Two late goals for Heart of Midlothian for a 3-1 come from behind win at Tynecastle against Motherwell.

Glasgow Celtic avenge their Skol Cup Final defeat, beating St Mirren 1-0 at home.

Pressure very much on the Teddy Bears now as they head to Brockville tomorrow to face John McGlynn’s bairns.
