On foot of seeing Tipptops post just as I was deciding what to have for lunch, I ended making the short trip to Donkey Fords, John St, Limerick.
Order: Chips & Two Battered sausages
Food quality: 5
This is the level all chippers should aspire to. The chips were just perfect, neither too soggy nor too dry and nicely crisp at the edges. The sausages, while smaller than your usual battered sausage were very tasty indeed.
Value for money: 5
Best Chips in the world: 1.90
Battered Sausages x 2: 1.20
Total : €3.10
How could you go wrong at that price?
Staff appraisal:
These are old pros at the chip shop game, and to give them a rating would just be down right dis-respectful to such majestic purveyors of the salt cellar.
Of course. I still feel bad though. Irregardless of opening hours I should have just gone home instead of darkening any chipper door other than those recommended on this thread.
Surely they would be worth the risk for the culinary delights runty? I refuse to believe there are any dodgy areas in Limericks fine city.

Ah they would alright, but the lobster pot would be the only one I can think of that would be open at 2am and in the city center.
Only realised last week that Burdock’s don’t do burgers (other than battered burgers) AND the curry sauce is fairly horrible. Don’t know what to think now.
I was talking in terms of your traditional chips shop.
I was in town saturday night and I don’t think I got any post nightclub food which is an odd one.
Only been in the Phibsboro one which was bog-standard so I never tried either of those.
The curry sauce up in Chirstchurch was that very dark variety with an almost fruity taste. Not nice imo.

Donal Og will often pop in there on his way home from Croker.

Ha! I was in BK saturday night myself and there was a free for all outside. Granted they were only all about 17/18 but it provided great entertainment while i gulfed down a Chicken Royal and Fries.
A serious endorsement from Runt there for Donkey Ford’s.*
It looks like Donkey Ford’s has taken the lead now, however i would like to see Fusco’s in Garryowen get a review so we can compare and contrast.
*I’d murder a bag of chips from there now after reading that, i was in the area earlier and i should have went in then.
1.90 for the bag of chips was serious value too.
I haven’t eaten from Fuscos in about 5 years. I generally approach the dog track from the Mulgrave St side, and would have no other reason to be up around that area.
