Shane MacGowan (RIP)

I’d say if you searched hard enough you’d find plenty fellas slating him on here

A right send off be got today :clap:

I was at a mass in City Quay church in Dublin not long ago. Fr. Alan Hilliard was a tonic. He’s a Coolock man who has recently moved in as PP. His sermon included uileann pipes at the beginning and the end. He spoke movingly of offering the church as a refuge to people frightened during the riots, especially immigrants and that his church would continue to be a refuge for immigrants and for frightened decent people going forward. It was the best sermon I’ve ever heard. And he’s a great man for the jokes. He gives good mass, as they say and I was delighted to slip a fiver into the box at the end for the parish.

I wonder what happened between Christy Moore and McGowan? They done a few classics together. I don’t mind Christy moores version of fairytale of New York.

Dave Fanning can’t help himself.

I haven’t seen him at all around Shane’s passing. He mustn’t be well.

He wasn’t at the funeral I don’t think. Tweeting away about tickets for his gigs earlier. He was in the documentary last year.

Seems odd to me.

Brolly was promoting a 2 hour podcast with Christy today. Out soon probably.

Most unusual for him not to comment publicly.

Good Jesus.

Our time on this rock comes and it goes, and we all find the same end

But I will say this one thing, we have a great fucking way of sending off our loved ones in this country.

And I don’t say this in isolation about today and Shane, I’ve been at two this week and a sadly a most tragic one tomorrow, but all are bound and bonded by the same tradition and love.

It’s not easy but we do our best.

But 15 minutes later we had our first taste of whiskey
There was uncles giving lectures on ancient Irish history
The men all started telling jokes and the women, they got frisky
By five o’clock in the evening every bastard there was piskey

Fare thee well, going away, there’s nothing left to say
Farewell to New York City, boys, to Boston and PA
He took them out with a well-aimed clout, we often heard him say
“I’m a free born man of the USA”

He always reminded me of the music version of Gerry Thornley.

I hate that bastard - he was trying to jib into a spot called Shelter for free after a Strokes gig years ago. I told the bouncers not to let him but let Tom Dunne in. He was going ape.

He’s an arsehole

Tubridy must be seething he missed out on this over the last week or so. He’d probably have the late late show live in nenagh desperately trying to get Bruce Springsteen or Johnny depp on the show.

I just had a quick look at his Instagram and a video all about himself talking about the “tragic trilogy” we’ve lost this year in Ireland.

He’s had many nice comments about Shane over on his website.

It must be killing him

Playing Spice Girls songs on Chris Evan’s station is no substitute

He’s some clown

Saw someone say on twitter when Fanning passes someone needs to go on radio and say “He was an ok DJ, but no Lottie Ryan”
