Piece on morning Ireland there on the 20th anniversary of all that you can’t leave behind by U2. I was in Irish college below in Kerry. 20 fucking years ago. That makes me feel old.

I was attempting a blow-dry of Nanny’s hair there this morning. I was quite chuffed with my effort and went for the mirror on mirror display to show off my tonsorial proficiency. All good.
However, when inspecting my own gruaig with the 2 mirror trick I’ve discovered, to my horror that I’ve developed a smidgen of a bald spot at the back where the confluences of styles converge.
This, while disappointing, is unlikely to prove fatal.
The Boxtys have a long history of hair retention, there’s never, in my mind, been a baldy Boxty.
I’m unlikely at this stage to break the mould. The Silver Fox expects to retain the moniker for another 20.

I’m pretty sure that Bernard Dunne fight was the last ever event held in the old Point Depot before it was redeveloped and renamed.

The final event to take place before closure and rebranding was a boxing card featuring local boxer, Bernard Dunne on 25 August 2007. Promoter Brian Peters had moved his European title defence against Kiko Martinez from Dublin’s boxing-specific National Stadium across the Liffey to the Point Depot where Dunne shattered former heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis’s previous attendance record for the venue.
