I would assume heâll have to at some point. I donât think heâd have a chance but then I didnât think McGuinness would have much of a chance either. McGuinnes was probably a more acceptable candidate than Gerry would be though.

Gerry has no chance in a straight up 50/50 race, heâd need 2 or 3 other strong candidates splitting the vote to sneak in.
McGuinness ran for president to get the worst of the Eire establishment list of horrors off their chest in a concerted campaign. He was well able to take it knowing he was going back to his real job in the six counties.
Gerry wouldnât have a hope either way. McGuinness got 13%of the first preference vote and no transfers, which is more or less where SF have been stuck for years.
Adams said no without pause when asked yesterday. Said he wonât run in any election ever again.
