Thatâs not the discussion we were having. I would be happy to dive into a discussion on our reliance on MNCs but given that you claimed in one post that we didnât tax them enough but then acknowledged you were wrong when presented with the facts, I am not confident that you are sufficiently well read on the topic to justify a meaningful discussion.
âIreland needs to raise more revenue to improve housing and healthâ
âIreland need to turf out the MNCs who provide a large share of taxes and nationalise the economyâ
Some of them donât even pay any tax on billions on profit. Whatâs your take on that? That specifically and not just your usual deflection horseshit.
The issue is that MNCs have Ireland by the balls when it comes to CT. They know the state are fucked without them in terms of jobs and taxes and can renege on their tax bills. You just donât want to discuss the fundamental reasons behind this clusterfuck of a situation.
Are there any other countries in Europe as beholden on MNCs as Ireland? I believe Iâm still waiting for an answer.
Firstly, on âshort termâ, Iâd say weâre almost 50 years into the MNC involvement in Ireland and certainly over 30 years on a large scale so you may want to let that go.
Then you want âmajor capital investmentâ - presumably paid for by someone - while at the same time we need a âbig nationalisation driveâ. I suppose your answer to closing that particular loop is to borrow - but arenât you concerned then surely weâll be back at your original concern âlike taking money from a loan shark ⌠you end up being had by the ballsâ?
The MNC model might have concentration risk but it has been a game-changer for this country and I certainly would be happier with it then whatever incoherent economic mumbo-jumbo you seem to be advocating.
Housing is in demand because of all the people who want to live and work here. Housing in any major capital city of a successful economy is always in demand and in short supply. We have the tools to fix it as we have a successful economy.
The health system could be better and access needs to be improved.
People need to be careful what they wish for and remember we didnât always have a country where young people had a future and a good quality of life.
