Sinn Fein - Populism and Partionism

690 likes v 24 says what that line of thinking gets you these days. Sad really. It’s a point worth discussing that Doherty raises.

What a truly pathetic response.

Agreed. You’d have expected Pearse to come up with a better response to the issue instead of trying to point score again. Some motherfuckers are always trying to ice skate uphill

:roll_eyes::roll_eyes:

Agreed

Roordal Ireland : we need broadband

Roordlal Ireland ; we need banks to run their business like 1986

Doherty is cut from same cloth as the rest - a populist spoofer who tells everybody they can have everything

Did you hear their climate spokesman, he has no position on what cut agriculture needs to do, ffs

We need politicians to make tough decisions. They won’t unfortunately. The pensions debacle is an illustration of it.

They’ve been incredibly fortunate in the last few years on several fronts. The RIC commemoration for example, if some clown of a Fianna Fáiler hadn’t decided to try to harden his Republican credentials then SF would likely have done quite poor in 2020.

They will want that luck to continue. Getting in on foot of another election in a few months could well be a poisoned chalice. Their playbook atm is simple enough for now. Unless their electorate go full on Trumper/Brexit (which is possible), they are going to struggle to meet the promises they make.

Will ye forget who and what party raised this. The government said they were blindsided by the aib decision when that was a lie. They played the populist card here .

Exactly. The usual auld shite but the point addressed.

The removal of cash threatens the black economy. It’s no wonder to see who is lashing out against it.

Closing cash facilities in branches is not “clear and significant reputational damage for the State” as Doherty says ffs. The DoF civil servants charged with monitoring AIB, likely didn’t give a fuck, as they are not politicians. The NEDs the same. The fact that An Post would be providing cash services as well likely meant they thought this was irrelevant.

It wasn’t politically.

Of course Doherty would pursue this line, that’s politics.

Surely thats the realm of the party of brown envelopes

Christ on a bike. SF surround themselves globally with hugely successful/Corporate/Political people. Does anyone seriously believe they will start nationalising shit.

They want power so they can put down a white paper for reunification and push for a Border Poll. That may fail but look at Scotland back again and momentum building. Crocodiles!!!

SF are centre left so in power they will take FF out. Ultimately FF / FG / SF (when they get into power) will be practically the same (FG more right).

They will have a different perspective on housing but after FG/FF in power for years they will have no right to shout when SF say they need time to right their wrongs.

DOB is doing some good things which may not come through for a couple of years (Judicial Review etc). They could take the applause, ala Brian Lenihan (RIP).

If they do, @Tim_Riggins may be crying for a long time.

They could be lucky on housing as increased supply and higher interest rates will drive prices down.

Of course anybody who bought in last three years may be about to be hosed.

Sinn Fein prefer their cash shrink wrapped.

You and your cronies here have completely missed the point.

No. They have okay wages and the old ones decent pensions. Most probably live in Dublin.

Outside of Dublin there is a cohort of elderly people and others budgeting from week to week. They probably only deal with cash, some probably only deal with the teller in the bank.

Life moves on but what about society? It’s like saying pensioners should start paying for the bus or the tv licence. AIB at the moment is owned by the state and as long as that remains then they need to think of society as a whole.

Thatcher devalued teachers, nurses, police so much they ended up with no one entering the profession. Is that the Society you want to live in?
We need to sort out housing or else there will be no teachers or nurses in Dublin in 10 years!!!

Nah, the number 1 reason that SF want power is to try and whitewash their murder campaign.

Number 2 is for more jobs and pensions (similar to most politicians) for themselves. For the failed soldiers up North, they already have jobs and pensions courtesy of the British tax payer though through their administration of British rule there. The key goal of a SF southern administration is getting the boys from Belfast to be seen like the War of Independence types.

There’ll be pretend moves on the Border but only the truly gullible in the party actually believe they will deliver a United Ireland. If Provisional SF were serious about a UI they would have left the pitch in 1998. They had no reason to exist beyond then beyond points 1 and 2 above.

In terms of the “serious” operators they are with internationally, I know a few “Friends of Sinn Féin” heads. There are some wealthy ones, but it’s mostly your townie type who operated a few bars and did okay for themselves, not captains of industry.

I do agree with you that they won’t nationalise shit etc. All they are politically is FF Nua, in it for 1 and 2 above and that needs time.

My biggest issue with them isn’t that they’ll “ruin the economy”, it’s that they are complete scumbags. It’s been inevitable since 2011 that they’d get in eventually though, so it’s been a gradual point of acceptance up until 2020. I’m just looking forward to all the mugs who used to support FF and Labour crying about broken promises and the gullible types who think they will deliver a UI getting pissy with them as well.
