Sinn Fein - Populism and Partionism

Kiełty can say what he likes

Yeah exactly

Sinn Fein haven’t a fucking notion. Imagine coming after a man whose father was killed by the UDA, simply because he made a joke at their expense.

McGuinness must be turning in his grave.

Sinn Féin administer British rule in Northern Ireland but have their knickers in a knot over a comedian calling them traitors on a light-entertainment show?

Shurely shome mishtake?

McGuinness was turned long before he got in the grave.

I used to think he was an informer but most credible commentators think otherwise. It’s a very hard thing to disprove of course.

That was a great piece of radio, the only time I ever heard Paschal lose his cool.

No surprise to see @Tim_Riggins defending far-right slogans but I thought you were supposed to be the sensible conservative.

I’m even worse - I’m a centrist rugby dad! Cc @Cheasty

I don’t think the joke was particularly funny but the reaction from SF was way over the top. Immaterial in the scheme of things though.

The editor of the Phoenix was on the wireless there today and his main point was that “Sinn Féin traitors” is the main far right slogan in working class areas of Dublin. Kielty and Rte management might not have known this (though they should) but using it lent it credence. He also distinguished between attacking politicians generally and attacking one political party. Thought he made convincing points.

Is he suggesting that poor little victims Sinn Fein are the only party satirised on RTE? Is he mad?

But sure lookit - if it energises SF voters like yourself who think the likes of Kielty are being mean to them - isn’t that good for them in the round

I think he meant on that programme. That seemed obvious enough to me at the time. But you far-right sympathisers sometimes aren’t the sharpest on the pickup.

Wahey! I think this is the first time I’ve been called far-right on TFK

I think the main point of all this is that Kielty’s sketch was about as funny as a dose of the crap.

A textbook case of the “sensible conservatives” move farther right until they’re legitimizing far right talking points, as you’ve just demonstrated.

Sounds nasty

Ah would you stop. It was a crap joke and a crap reaction from SF and that’s about it. You’re embarrassing yourself with this level of pearl-clutching
