Sky Bet Championship 2014/2015

Hartlepool stay in the league and Jeff Stelling is euphoric. Ronnie Moore, manager of the season.

Sensational scenes at Cheltenham as they go down and fans of promoted Shewsbury invade the pitch, dressed in sombreros and pink alien suits and giant yellow condoms.

Tranmere is a club which has always had an air of impending doom about it. Just when you think something good is about to happen to them, it blows up right in their faces.

110k, pal.

I’ll allow it, having experienced many promotion campaigns under enthusiastic if limited managers I understand better than most.

No Bamford despite being named POTY

Bournemouth 1 up

2 up

That was a lovely second goal.

Friend of the Forum Ewan MacKenna has made a fool of himself on twitter yet again. Saying it’s such a brilliant and romantic story amidst all the other teams and their “petropounds”. They’re owned by an obscenely wealthy Russian chap and pay Eddie Howe £1m per annum and Kenwyne Jones £30k per week to be a backup striker.

But they do have Artur Boruc in goal so that makes it ok.

But they haven’t splashed out on anyone else of note. Who would be high profile players or big earners for them? You’ll struggle to find any. I was reading a bit about this and put aside the teams who have dropped down from the EPL, after those Forest, Leeds and Middlesbrough have all spent more on transfers than Bournemouth.

They don’t have a huge net spend, only something like £500,000 compared to Middlesbrough’s £6.1m.

Mick McCarthy has worked a miracle with Ipswich as their net spend is -£4.1m this season and they’ve barely signed anybody for a transfer fee since he took over.

would Brentford or wolves have spent much?..

Brentford have a net spend of over £4m. Wolves around the same as Bournemouth.

Yeah, you’re right in that the upfront cash outlay on signings doesn’t seem excessive but they had a £8m loss in 2013 largely on the back of their wage bill. They first really appeared on my radar when I read this article at the start of 2014:
http://www.theguardian.com/football/david-conn-inside-sport-blog/2014/jan/24/bournemouth-fa-cup-liverpool-demin-russian-invisible-man

It mentioned a £2.3m signing in the article and the significant financial backing from the media-shy Russian with a background in petrochemicals. I read another article a month or two back that was more up to date but I can’t find it online at the moment.

Just found it amusing that the FoTF, who knows fuck all about most things but has something hard-hitting to say about the majority of them nonetheless, was praising their fairy-tale rise to the EPL when compared to other clubs having the benefit of “petropounds”, as he called it. Even though they have a billionaire owner having made his fortune via petrochemicals and who’s using his very own petropounds to cover their accumulated losses and fund a very high wage bill.

It was funny as it developed further with “woof brigade” members ridiculing him.

not sacking Neil Adams when i encouraged them to so on this forum has cost Norwich the championship title …they had something like one win in 10 games before he got bullet.under. Alex Neill they’ve probably lost something like 2 in 12 …

It would appear they had a very big wage bill in League One terms but I don’t think they are one of the bigger overall spenders on wages in the Championship?

They have the second lowest average attendance in the Championship and their revenue is small so they surely can’t be paying that much with the Financial Fair Play rules?

Alex Neil is doing a great job. Between Norwich and boro to go up in all probability. Although if brentford sneak in on last day I’d almost fancy them to win it, then.
