Interesting. I usually read your retweets and I’m out like a light

Time for some shut eye God bless black out curtains.

I find insomniacs hate advice, but anyway below is what works for me a lot of the time but still have periods where nothing really works.

  • Go to bed at a consistent time in a calm environment.
  • Go to bed early to give best possible opportunity to get to sleep before 12. Pointless going to bed early and reading your phone for hours though.
  • Have a daily written to do list and know what lies ahead in work/personal life next day. Doesn’t need to be anything extravagant.
  • Minimal caffeine

I have noticed on my watch that even just a couple of drinks gives an elevated heart rate, high stress levels (variable heart rate) and poor quality sleep. Must admit I still turn to it sometimes if sleep gets very bad.

Do you share a bed with your wife?

Phones etc have to be off - face up on my Apple Watch sleep monitor
Couldn’t get used to wearing it in bed

Yes. Provide some training without jeopardising any other nocturnal activity. Need to tread a fine line. The above may be aspirational at times.

5-6 hours is loads if you get in a midday nap lads. Don’t fight it. Give in to the way of the nap. It will change your lives in ways you never thought possible

You couldn’t be more wrong. You’re taking years off your life cc @Arthur @Tassotti

I’m the same. Long haul flights and that would be no sleep zones for me.

Have you considered starting a family? You’ll sleep standing up

I’m only on day 5 of this lads but I’m already thinking we’re in game changer territory…

I’ve started taping my mouth before going to sleep at night which obviously forces you to breath through your nose.

Nasal breathing increases nitric oxide production in the sinus cavity, which is linked to reduced inflammation, improved sleep, improved memory, and an increase in immune system function.

Duck tape was a bit of a disaster but surgical tape is working well. Anyway, I’m getting a deeper longer sleep and the morning groginess is gone.

Takes a bit if experementation to get it right* but is working for now.

*I fully reserve the right to row back on this once my brain figures out how to override this and keeps me awake at night trying to figure out how to counteract a slur that has not happened yet or possibly will never happen.
