Not really. It’s fairly humdrum. Disappointing really. Bit of self justification and a few Shure Lookits.

That’s probably what I meant, sound off the pitch. I met the man when the team was training at Wanderers in 2010 (down for the cryo in White’s, remember that?), he had fair patience for all the kids and more so adults. Suppose you’d need the intensity, but the Irish as a race in a collective would also probably have no time for it. He’s grateful Lancaster and Schmidt straightened him out.
I got around to this and finished last night, a very interesting history of the Lions, the Ford family and Detroit,
One criticism I’d have is that it appears to have created a happy ending because they won a couple of playoff games, there’s a sense of ‘it’s only a matter of time under @Big_Dan_Campbell’

Failing to qualify at least saved us from a humiliation at the hands of Bryan Robson and England in the first match of the finals.
Had we managed to finish second in the group ahead of the Czechs we’d have been up against Austria and Northern Ireland to qualify for the semis and a meeting with West Germany in Seville where the man they call The Monster would most definitely have monstered us.
I suppose we’d have taken that though.
I can’t remember much except we barely missed out and we were robbed. That seemed to be always the case.
I see that Eamonn Sweeney has done a follow up to The Road to Croker, I really enjoyed that book and I picked up the new one this morning

I’m actually enjoying Richie Hogan’s book. Poor bastard sounds like he’s destroyed for life because of Cody and Dempsey not giving him a proper plan when he started in the squad.
On that note, Jackie Tyrell’s book was decent. Seemed like he had a massive amount of self-doubt. Larkin’s book wasn’t any way memorable… Shefflin and Cody’s books bore the shite out of me… Who here did the Canice Pilkington on here?

I’d say that whole Kilkenny team was racked with self doubt. Living and dying for a grunt from Cody.
Dublin were the same with Gavin to a certain extent- no one got too close to him
Richie has a story where he was out in DCU training down the back pitch one day with about 50 sliothars dotted about the place. The next thing a load of cars parked up beside the pitch, was the Dublin footballers. Jim Gavin comes out, asks Richie how he is, and train away, and the boys will train around him and to take his time. Next day Richie went out, there was a 8 foot fence around the pitch 
Richie said he hopped over it. Doubt that part but no surprise with fence… Richie sounds like a confident enough character to the rest of them. Poor aul Jackie sounded like he went through the absolute ringer with Cody more so than anything.
