Very frustrating. We didn’t play well to be fair. I think it was always going to be a difficult ask to lift it again three days after such a draining game on Thursday night, but to be fair Poland had the same schedule. We were far too sloppy on the ball though, no real excuse for that. Losing Walters will force a bit of a change in terms of how we play in the first leg, I’d suppose it will depend who we are playing and if we are home or away.

It was a silly foul from O’Shea. It was particularly silly in the context of missing a playoff game.
But Dunphy was blaming O’Neill for not making a change to prevent it happening. O’Shea was in “foul trouble” but we don’t have a capable/experienced alternative and you don’t make a change to stop him doing something stupid. So O’Shea is absolutely at fault for making the error. But it’s a stupid stretch from Dunphy to hang it on O’Neill.
Ah for fuck sake. If we had someone with half the battling spirit and cuteness of Lewandowski, we’d be giving them the freedom of Dublin City.

It’s a completely different game though. We didn’t play as much “football” as the last game, yet had far more of the ball and had more set pieces and opportunities to score, though still few chances.
You can’t just replicate the performance with different personnel, with some players not able to play another 90 minutes, with Long deserving his start etc. If we had been able to play Brady in midfield, it might have been different but they had a different gameplan too, and crucially they had Lewandowski who would have scored multiples for Germany the other night.
I can not explain sports mentality and confidence to someone like you.
