State of the Nation Irish Soccer Review ... Post Euro 2016 ☘ ⚽

I’ll be interested to see the progress of the following players:

Alan Judge - not sure how long he’s going to be out with for injury for. Could provide another ball-playing midfield option when fit.
Chris Forrester - less than a year at Peterborough and already club captain. Still only 23.
Anthony Stokes - turns 28 later this month which is younger than I thought. Hopefully has matured on and off the pitch. Now or never for him at international level, however.
Richie Towell - probably needs to make a breakthrough at Brighton before being considered.

Robbie Keane’s time is up but I would like to see John O’Shea remain involved for the time being as I think he’s an excellent dressing room influence, even if he probably won’t make it to Russia as a player if Eire qualify. Would expect to see him move into coaching and I think he’ll make a success of it.

He’s already chosen England no?

He is playing for them underage. That doesn’t necessarily mean he will make it into the Arsenal first team and the England senior squad and given his strong Irish roots his head could easily be turned in the future

Well then it’s not really too similar to the grealish case.

Has he played underage for Ireland aswell? I know it’s thought that he will choose Ireland in the long run but the same was thought of Grealish.

The IFA (not the farmers) have expressed interest in the nephew.

I’ll never forgive the little shit if I end up cheering him on in Windsor Park.

:astonished:

O’Neill specifically mentioned Joe Mason (Wolves) and Scott Hogan (Brentford) as potential goalscoring options for future squads in his press conference following Euros elimination.

Any other fledgling bangers Ireland can get on board?

Michael and Will Keane
Nathan Redmond

-:scream:

The family is torn. He scored 3 goals for the Dubs against Meath yesterday. Now this news. One minute we’re thinking Hill 16, now The Kop stand…

We were just crowned the greatest fans in the world, kid.

What level are these Keane’s playing at now I assume they are no longer on the books of Manchester? Were one or both at Burnley in the championship for a while? Neither of them will make England senior teams so O’Neill should make a run at them while our profile is now quite high. Same goes for any other English lads out there with ability and Irish grannies now is the time to strike.

Will Keane hasn’t really done much, had a few uninspiring loans at Championship clubs. He’s a striker.

Michael Keane seems to be doing well at Burnley who recently got promotion to the EPL, Leicester have apparently had a £10m bid knocked back for him.

Hendrick has been linked with a move to Middlesbrough in the past few days.

Not sure if he’s been mentioned but isn’t there a Cullen at Westham that’s highly rated? @Big_Dan_Campbell, @Declan_Moffat?

Josh Cullen, pal.

I remember reading something a while back about him ripping it up while on loan to Burnley or Birmingham.

Michael Keane is very good. Will still on the books at United.

Didn’t realise but Michael Keane has actually represented us at U17 and U19 level, before switching to England and playing a good few games for their U21s. He probably looked at his teammates while with those Irish teams and felt like we had absolutely nothing coming through. He’s now 23 and according to wikipedia is on the “radar” of Martin O’Neill. He’s permanent at Burmley, no longer a loan only.
