Staycation - Limerick's hard on for anything Kerry

Any nice activities to do in Dublin city centre with a group of kids, weather looks to be patchy, weā€™ll be doing the Dublinia thing because they like Vikings,
Weā€™ll have a few kids with us that arenā€™t our own so weā€™ll be a large group.
Havenā€™t been to Dublin in a good while.
Weā€™ll be on foot/public transport.
Also taking recomendations of places to eat for a group like that, thanks in advance.

We had a grand time of it up around Westport.

Did a day at the Pirate Park. Not sure I could recommend it as itā€™s really poor value.
The pirate bit itself is very limited. If the kids are big thereā€™s only two rides that would entertain them, if they are small they wonā€™t get on the two good rides and will be limited to the mini Ferris wheel and some sort of mechanical merry go round thing. Thereā€™s a train around, and pedal swans on the lake. There also a good slide in a different area, but youā€™d be hard pressed to knock a day out of it.
They are extremely strict on heights of access to the rides (ridiculously so), so you need to check in advance if the kids will qualify.

Got the children over half way up Croagh Patrick, which was an achievement in itself and headed out around Achill for a day which was great, even in poor weather.

Came home via Connemara / Doolough. I delayed lunch so we could go to MisUnderstood Heron, which then turned out to be closed on Tuesdays.

Aside from the ones Fagan has mentioned The Epic Museum in CHQ and 14 Henrietta st are decent but you may be museumed out at that stage.

Food wise Romanoā€™s on Capel st is a no frills Italian that is really cheap. Kids like Thunder Road in Temple Bar or Captain Americaā€™s on Grafton st but both are expensive.

If they like walking Howth is good, particularly on a weekday.

DART and fish and chips

The Howth Cliff walk is amongst the nicest walks in the country

Takes in a lighthouse and a secluded ā€œbeachā€

Bit busy is the only thing. Too crowded and youā€™re constantly stopping to let people past

What a meak attitude

As I am not 4ā€™11 like you, my life isnā€™t a constant struggle to appear tough

Thanks, weā€™ve been to Howtj a few times and it is nice, but we only have one day and will be staying in the city centre, train up and down job

The bog bodies in the National Museum were a hit when we did a ā€œDublin Museums Dayā€ a few years ago

Bring them on a tour of the inner cityā€¦ look down any alleyway and youā€™ll find a junkie or human excrement. They can count which there are more of.

If the kids are adventurous eaters bring them to the M&L on Cathedral St for a bit of authentic Chinese.

I have never been but a primary school teacher I know takes his students to the Hugh Lane Gallery up past the Rotunda and says it is an excellent day out.

Itā€™s a lovely gallery and then out to the Garden of Remembrance across cc the road.

Over to Dublin Castle. Theyā€™ve a new exhibit with the two shillelaghs that were used to rule Ireland for 800 years.

Do the croke park skyline thing. You might see the brogans abseiling off the roof.

Bring em to the fucking zoo and stop over thinking it

Ah Jesus, weā€™ve been to the zoo dozens of times.
Iā€™m quite familiar with Dublin, just looking for handy activities to fill out a few hours
