Staycation - Limerick's hard on for anything Kerry

If the weather keeps ye in the car the Caherdaniel - Sneem - Ballaghbeama - Ballaghisheen - Waterville loop is as fine a set of scenery as you’ll get anywhere.

Agreed on Derrynane beach it’s possibly the best beach in Ireland to my mind. If you’re down there a week consider a day trip to the blasket islands it’s superb. You’ll have to book well in advance and the sailing is weather dependant. You can swim on the beach on the blankets it’s quite the experience after hearing the history of the place in the preceding hour or two.

Good idea but I’d say it’s a two and a half hour drive to Dunquin

You’re on the Kerry way there so the walking tracks are very well signposted, Caherdaniel to Waterville is about 12k along the coast

This sounds savage.

Has Parknasilla big grounds to roam around? Like wild forest stuff or what?

It has tbf.

Fairy Garden Trail but your kids are too old to get the craic out of it.

Good walk around the Estate alright

Gizzy’s wild hurling has finished though

Kells Bay is a nice distraction for the kids for a few hours. Something a little different.

It has but surely if you are down that far the thing to do is to bring them on a boat to Skellig Michael.

Whats the age sanction for kids to the Skelligs? You need to book well in advance and the weather can be hit and miss but it is an incredible venture and something all Irish people should do once.

Them monks were hardy bastards.

EDIT - No under 11’s seems to be the rule of thumb, but open to a bit of wrangling I’d imagine.

If the kids are into tropical plants Kell’s bay is great @Juhniallio :man_shrugging:
There’s a restaurant there that does good Thai food.

We got out of there quickly and down to the pier where there’s a decent drop (probably depending on tides) to jump in

I’ve been down that way a fair bit, I’ll have to rack my brains

Go into Waterville and photograph them with the statue of Micko.

I’d like to but I’d be terrified of Juhy junior on it. He’s prone to overconfidence leading to injury on walks like that. A great lad for thinking he can jump 2 metres and land on that pointy rock over there… might leave him a couple of years for that. Ive had him out on the cliff walk in howth a good few times and its scary enough watching him.
It has nothing at all to do with my own fear of heights…

A good pier with a jump is a winner with my two all the way! Ta.

Fionn Trá

Lovely part of the world is Kerry.

The loop around Slea Head on electric bikes stopping for refreshments is as good a day as you’ll ever put down
