Donât think the Kerry case is worth talking about.
Donât think the Kerry case is worth talking about.
Why not? The mania which can seemingly possess a man and make him do something like that is always worth discussing and trying to understand, imo.
RTE says they spent 6 hours trying to talk him out of jumping. Thatâs a lengthy amount of time to be standing at the top of a cliff.
nicely demonstrated Kev
I donât see how brushing it under the carpet benefits anyone
If we had Gaybo harping on about suicide on a regular basis instead of pontificating on how to drive we may not be so frequently avoiding stories like this one
The reduction in road deaths should be applauded not denigrated.
The story from Adamstown is shocking. Mental health is a very complex issue and tougher to solve than road deaths but to kill yourself is wrong on every level. My personal view is that if suicide was demonised a bit more maybe there would be less copycat efforts.
Thereâs so many things wrong with that I donât even know where to start. Did it do everyone much use 20 and 30 years ago when people who committed suicide were scorned upon and barely even afforded a normal funeral? Doing what you suggest is a typical Irish solution of just sweeping the problem under the carpet and hoping it goes away rather than trying to understand what gets into peoples heads to make them take this course of action.
As well, this is coming from the liberal, anti Cathloic Church/GGA/FF man. A very Catholic Church attitude if you ask me. Call everything a sin and that is how you deter people from doing it.
Suicide represents the ultimate low point of human existence where a person cannot carry on with the pain of life anymore and would rather die. Such people should not be vilified but treated with compassion.
Also I saw an interesting stat recently - expenditure on mental health relative to GDP has decreased by something like 80% since the 1960s even though the amount of suicides have gone through the roof in that time. Enda Kenny said it was a personal pledge to look at the scourge of suicide and try and get those frightening numbers down. Hopefully he makes in a priority.
Also can I just say that your comments Mac on this thread have been refreshing to be honest. Great to see that there are people out there holding such a compassionate view.
Because it was some selfish cunt murdering his partner and leaving his son alone for life. Thats murder and abandonment, the fact that he jumped off a cliff really doesnât bother me.
The other one is simply heart breaking. But i donât expect you to understand that one as you donât seem to be able to get too close to a woman.
So suicide in your eyes is only an âawfulâ thing in some cases? Man youâve got to get your shit together.
He was a murderer you idiot, obviously i donât give a dam about him.
Practice what you preach man.
Wathc your fooking mouth! Whatever he was, he committed suicide so what you are saying is that suicide is only âawfulâ in certai circumstances. I know where you stand now. Tut tut, for shame, fooor shaaaammmmeee!
Ah Flano, where are you going with this bro?
Kev, serious question. Where do you stand on the Ballycotton case?
Iâm going downtown.
To be honest Kevs self righteousness really grinds my gears. He should get off his soap box and put it on his head for a while.
Why werenât you in the Terry last night bro?
But Farmer Mental Health is dealt with privately to a large degree nowadays, and alot of the money spent back then was just building the Mental Hospitals and throwing people in with out any real care. So i wouldnât really use the money spent as an example of our attitude.
There is no doubt there is a lack of funding, and it is a disgrace. But the mindset has to change first, and in fairness i think it is. Canât happen over night though.
I would argue he only did it when he realised he was caught and/or he regretted it and couldnât live with it. He murdered first and left a son without a mother.
I really donât see why you find this one hard to understand my view.
Hitler killed himself too, it was suicide no doubt, but do you think it was a great loss to society?
Ah I was asleep, I sent Cantonasboot a text at 5am when I woke up telling him whats what.
Did you hear about Chewnisia?
Yeah - you have a point with the first part but at least money was being devoted to it. Look at the situation now - mental health funding being cut, blind allowances being cut and cunts walking away from being TDs with massive pensions.
Was it for this the wild geese spread?
Is that a new line from Philadelphia cheese?
Things are definitely changing. I mean i knowing of sporting teams going on suicide awareness training, imagine that happening even a few years ago? Wouldnât happen. Its slow moving this train, but its moving.
