Late friend used drive tubes in London
Had 2 suicides ( jumpers) in a few months-
he’d a break down- drink/ drugs - homeless-
Turned it around last 6 years.
His old man owned 3 pubs in Cork city, farm, few houses/
Mother got cancer, new barmaid started shagging his dad- long story short
Dad died- tramp of a barmaid got everything
( she married him and he was dead within 3 years)
Boys got f all- ended up being looked after by relatives,
See how life can fuck u up?
Bars- courthouse tavern
Ma Duleas
And one I can’t think of-
Late mates name -Dave Drinan
Same as his dad.

Know the sad thing about it?
We ran away to London as 14/15 year old tear aways, we came home , he stayed,
I got the news obviously of his demise and thought he died decades ago but found out through his sis in law that he only died 7:8 years ago.

He used manage the 7 sisters pub on
7 sisters road for a few years,
But went back drinking etc,
Beautiful boy he was,
Life’s precious chaos.

Ps excuse the long winded piece but his memory warranted it-

Know a few train drivers that have been involved in such incidents. The aftermath is gruesome and they don’t sleep easy for a while.

Nothing long-winded about it (this is the place for it anyway). Thanks for sharing it.

Oddly, know a couple myself who spoke about it as a year off work on full pay

Thank you

Thanks- life’s short

Must be terrible tbh

Thank fuck for that. I’ve read articles and watched interviews over the years with centenarians and think to myself…worst nightmare. Playing bingo in an old folks home for twenty years with some internal organ threatening to give up every second day.

A very good pal of mine went that way. Cool as you like on the video from London rail- coffee on to rail of overpass and over he went.

Cops knocked at his apartment where he lived with another of our 2 pals. Requested a toothbrush so they could confirm him via DNA.

jesus - horrific

Yeah.

You’d feel for the train driver too. Could be bravado the way you had it described to you as a means to paid leave. That shit would have to haunt you.

defo could be bravado

If you were that way inclined it’s something you could use to take a sabbatical. Plenty out on long term sickness for far less serious ailments.

I worked with a chap who was fond of a sickie. He’d ring in sick on the Friday of a bank holiday, turn up on the Monday for treble pay and out sick again on the Tuesday. Not every bank holiday, he wouldn’t take the piss. He was outraged when they stopped giving him bank holidays.

I’ve a good pal who’s a train driver. He said it’s very competitive to get a position, and an awful lot of time in selection was spent assessing how you’d be able to deal with a suicide or accident in front of your train.
Strangely he was an undertaker before that. A real nice man, quiet and kind.

Years and years earlier this pal had asked “if you were going to kill yourself, how would you do it?” He himself answered ‘in front of a train’ so obviously had it in his head.

Was told how selfish it would be on, amongst others, the train driver. Having to deal with something like that just because he going to do a days work, impact on that man’s family etc

Didn’t obviously deter him.

That’s in the UK no doubt. Not too hard to in Ireland. Long training process though.
