I was a bit dismissive in my earlier posts and I apologise profusely. I read through it again and, in fairness, he mentions going through a family bereavement and other life pressures too along with the sporting aspect.
I quoted him once and yes but that was merely Runt bantering at the time.
No that was another matter which we’ll leave where it is.
I understand Pieta House’s point, but I’ve seen this go on, and I think the HSE are in the main, correct with this one. Its a difficult topic to tackle, how best to remember someone in this situation, but the numbers of teenagers who are being glorified in suicide in recent years is growing and its heartbreaking when you see suicide “get in” in a community.
The GAA has been urged not to dedicate games or other events to members who have taken their own lives.
The controversial call comes from the HSE who have issued guidelines to community organisations, including the GAA, in an attempt to prevent further suicides from taking place.
The HSE is advising the GAA not to name trophies or competitions after suicide victims, or to create special jerseys.
“We don’t recommend dedications at sporting events. Any activities that glamourise or glorify suicide may increase the likelihood of others also considering suicide,” the HSE guideline read.
In response, Joan Freeman of suicide and self-harm awareness group Pieta House - whose logo appeared on the Dublin jersey for Saturday’s Leinster SFC quarter-final against Westmeath - argued in the Irish Daily Star: "I would not say that families should not be allowed to highlight their loved one by planting a tree or having a park bench, if that is what helps them.

Thats a strange one, I’ve done the course run by Pieta House as part of the Mind Your Men campaign and the instructions at that in relation to handling a suicide within a clyb were exactly what the HSE said above.

Thankfully, you’re living the dream* and are therefore invulnerable to such suggestions.
*actual dream may be an isolated, racist utopia

Chap i knew, tho only in passing really, committed suicide Friday night. Late 30s, sound out and only had a brief chat with him a couple of weeks ago and he was telling me about future plans.
Someone went into the river last week too but was pulled out. Talking to a guard mate , she was telling me that It’s happening every day and they are constantly called out to the river.
Sorry to hear that mark…

Have you noticed the bridge patrols now man? The amount of people jumping in the river is insane, one or two a week or more. They have patrols now set up along the bridge to watch for it.
Like I said, I didn’t know him that well, tutored him a bit last year, It’s just the usual shock associated with hearing such news.
ok, so should we offer sympathy or not then?
Nah don’t bother, pal. Just seems to be rampant lately.
grand, fk him so
You are some tiresome cunt with your attempts to be outrageous.
You’re about as funny as a dose of herpes.
A guy I knew in college went in off the new bridge years ago.
