Fairly obvious that if clubs were interested in players then said players would be aware of this interest. It then follows that if players do not leave their original club that either (1) the clubs cannot agree a fee or (2) that the player has no interest in leaving. Given that there was very little media speculation on the above players moving it seems obvious that the players did not push for moves so could be said to have turned down the clubs in question. Is that simple enough for you or should I draw some pictures?
Maybe I’m overlooking his biggest qualities as in his defence he was quite solid in a disciplined role for the Dutch but he does seem to be very unimaginative and ponderous on the ball and I believe that was one of Roma’s biggest failings in the midfield last season. In his general defensive role he seemed adept but I was expecting a much more dynamic player from the hype surrounding him.
No, it could not be said that they turned moves down as the opportunity never presented itself. That’s like patting yourself on the back because you didn’t cheat on your wife when an attractive lady glanced at you in the bar. Temptation is easily resistible when it’s in a discreet form.
How did the opportunity not present itself? Bids were made, interest was made very obvious. Players ignored interest=turned down moves. I fail to see what you’re finding hard to understand here.
