Summer Transfer Window 2014

@Bandage also had this to say on Jordan Henderson.

Chelsea making a move for Fabregas.

Man u supposedly making a 65m stg bid for suarez

No they are not.

The Metro reported yesterday that United could launch a £65m bid for Suarez. Their great in depth journalism consisted basically of a journo reporting as fact, speculation from a Spanish newspaper, with a very deceitful headline.

The Spanish newspaper did a speculative piece that United had money to spend and listed potential targets, Suarez being one which was also dismissed out of hand. The metro “journalist” used this speculation as his “source” to back up his story. Now gullible fools are reporting this as fact and it can be found all over the internet.

Easiest job in the world - a sports journalist. Just make shit up

Obviously you missed the word supposedly and the smiley face

You know youre on the losing side when myboybtk is in agreement with you

Jeremy Menez looks to be heading to AC Milan on a bosman. Would be a good signing for them

Very good signing.

Juventus being heavily linked with a move for Alvaro Morata, seems like it may be a deal like that Madrid have done with their youth players in the past - Granero and Carajval come to mind whereby they insert a buyback fee into the arrangement. Fee mooted to be about €15m.

Juventus continuing with the strategy that has failed them in Europe the last two seasons - buying C level strikers and Morata is just that as are the likes of Tevez, Llorente, Osvaldo, Vucinic, Matri, Quagliarella, Giovinco. Quagliarella is definitely heading for the exit door this summer, Vucinic and Giovinco could follow and now it seems Llorente could be out the door after a less than impressive first season.

They also have the option of bringing back Gabbiadini, Berardi and Zaza from their loans/co-ownerships and I think this would make more sense than blowing a wad on Morata.

Alex also looks set to sign on a bosman for them which would be another good signing.

They really need to start clearing out the trash though.

The PSG defender?

Yes.

I’ve had a quick look through the Milan squad and feel they need to get rid of the following players:

Amelia
Muntari
Mexes
Robinho
Honda
Pazzini
Rami
Birsa
Essien
Zapata
Constant
Taraabt
Constant
Silvestre
Emanuelson
Abbiati
De Jong
Balotelli
Zaccardo
Matri
Nocerino
Niang

Think it’s highly improbable that they could/would get rid of that amount of players but they do need a drastic overhaul. They badly need to bring their Italian identity back, all the great Milan sides had a strong Italian backbone in the side.

Menez and Alex would be good starting points for the rebuilding at Milan. I have also drawn up a shortlist of players they should be targetting:

Marchetti (GK)
Darmian (RB)
Criscito (LB)
Palletta (CB)
Astori/Kjaer (CB)
Baselli (CM)
Bonaventura (CM)
Cerci (RW)
Dzeko (ST)

They should also bring back the likes of Paloschi and Fossatti and allow them to provide the depth along with other youngsters like Cristante, Petagna and Mansour.

@Rocko, can you give us the lowdown on Emre Can, many thanks

Is it only the Mirror reporting this ?

Daily Mail & BILD also

I agree with that but there isn’t a glut of quality strikers out there that are available. They’d be better off pursuing quality rather than quantity though.

I would rate Immobile better than anything they have and they sold him, I would also rate Gabbiadini as good as anything they have and they will probably sell him as well. They should have done all they could to get Jovetic last season, a striker like Jovetic, Dzeko, Destro, Martinez, Cavani etc. would really bring them onto the next level. They have enough players to get rid of in the striking department to fund at least one big name signing in attack.

I broke the story on 18th May - http://www.thefreekick.com/board/index.php?threads/liverpool-football-club-2013-14.17555/page-145#post-946166

Other media organisations seem to have picked up on it in the past couple of days.

He’s an excellent prospect, and has been highly touted for some time in Germany, but he’s not the finished article yet.

He wanted to stay at Bayern last summer but Guardiola was fairly adamant that he wouldn’t be getting first team football anytime soon (fairly understandable given the midfield options they have). They sold him to Leverkusen with an option to buy him back but they have to pay a premium to get him back after 12 months, so Leverkusen will get more by selling him this summer than they would if Bayern exercised that clause next summer.

That might explain why he’s moving this summer because he’s only had one season with regular football, and even then Lars Bender was the established holding midfielder at Leverkusen with Rolfes and Castro and Son also featuring most of the time so he was only one of three of four nominal central midfielders which probably made his job easier when he played there. It also meant that he played at full back a bit and even at centre back too I think.

He’s not a particularly energetic midfielder so probably not going to play the Henderson role. I’d guess it’s more an alternative to Lucas or whoever to play with or instead of Gerrard in a slightly deeper role. He’ll probably need a bit of patience though, not just cast aside like Sahin or any number of Liverpool signings who don’t make the grade straight away.

Certainly agree on Immobile and the fact they had him and decided to sell him is very odd. But they’ve had too many strikers there for a long time - Matri, Quagliarella etc and then getting the likes of Borriello on loan when they needed to be focusing on replacing their mediocre squad players with genuine quality.
