Summer Transfer Window 2019

Mick was always a Juve fan and he read a few hipster articles and became a Torino man :sunglasses::sunglasses:

Alfredo Pedulla saying that Dybala has accepted the terms from United but other things are stalling the deal. Guessing this is either the Agent fee or Image rights.

Might not be over yet…

Wishful thinking from Maguire you’d feel.

Would he get a game at City though?

God no, its why he settled for elsewhere.

He’s getting £200k a week now :joy::joy:

Definitely

I think Maguire will be a solid enough signing for United but is nowhere near the best defender in the world. Himself and Wan Bissaka will improve United to the point that they might well make the top 4 but the fees are obscene and it just shows how much of a bubble EPL football is in.

Whatever about Man Utd making these signings, they are one of the world’s biggest clubs, I find the fact that lower level EPL clubs making big signings is the bigger issue with regard to the arse falling out of the whole thing.

West Ham buying Haller from Frankfurt doesn’t sit right at all. Haller gives up the CL to go to a bog standard mid table team who pay 45 million + for the privilege and I can only imagine decent wages. That is simply not sustainable. Similarly the talk of Everton buying Zaha for 70 odd million. Where is the grounding for that kind of money?

I would say that if transfers this summer, and last summer, were sorted by value English teams would dominate and what’s more, a lot of lower level teams would be in there. If anything happens to the TV money, then they are screwed.

Man U not interested in signing players on the cheap. Apparently Moysie was trying to buy Maguire from Sheffield United for £4-5 million in 2013 and Mourinho was trying to buy him for £50-60 million last summer. Bit like signing academy graduate Paul Pogba for £100 million or the Alexis Sanchez wage packet, better to wait until you can lash out a world record £85 million for Maguire and make a real statement of financial intent.

Incorrect on multiple accounts. Moyes never wanted Maguire. Sir Alex did. Last summer maguire could not be signed as Leicester wanted to hang onto him after he was with England in the world cup.

Wasn’t there an issue with Fellaini as well?

He could have been bought on the cheap before a certain date but that passed and United bought him anyway a couple of weeks later at a premium?

Actually I dont think 80 million isn’t too bad in that bubble market. They’ve just bought Englands 1st choice centre half who is at a good age. Brighton spunking 40 million on two championship over the lads few days really shows how obscene the bubble is.

But those are English prices. Would you rather Maguire or De Ligt for €15 million less or Lucas Hernandez for £17 million less to build your defence around in the medium term. Even taking the difference in fees out of it i would consider the other two better all round defenders.

Maybe neither of those were willing to join United but I think compared to his peers around Europe who have far more champions league experience, Maguire isn’t in that league yet but has commanded a huge fee despite.

Maybe not as a centre half but I would consider Declan Rice a better player than Maguire and a guy you could really build around as a defensive/holding midfielder. He is going to command a massive price in the next year or two going on the trend of English internationals having inflated prices.

West Ham look in good shape for the coming season. They are a tough opening game for the champions.

Rice is fairly limited on the ball which I don’t think is good enough for that position in a top club anymore

Agreed, they seem more intent on maintaining the illusion of being a big club than actually being one and their fans are lapping it up. Some fans were shrugging their shoulders at missing out on Champions League football but then wonder why the likes of Dybala and De Ligt have reservations about joining.

Harry Maguire is a great signing for Man U. He’s one of the top centre halfs in the world. Man U are one of the few members of the elite coterie of Super franchises where money is immaterial so the transfer fee just doesn’t matter to them. Spending £100m on Pogba or £80 on Maguire or Alexis Sanchez wages sends out a message that when the top end players come on the market, we’re one of the few that have the financial clout to get them. That can leave them open to getting mugged off when that wily old codger Pep pretended he was interested in a has been like Alexis Sanchez and Woodward felt he couldn’t be seen to blink with the cheque book.
