2-1 Win v Athlone tonight. 2 on the bounce. Say we are staying up, say we are staying up.
Just back from Thomond Park.
Good win. Excellent display in the first half, could have scored three or four. Eventually broke the deadlock when Shane Treacy floated in a free-kick which the entertainer Robbie Williams majestically headed home. We were comfortably in control even if Athlone looked dangerous on a couple of occasions with Barry Ryan making one fine stop. Craig Curran, who was winning everything that was played up to him, then went off injured and that badly upset the Super Blues rhythm. The loss of the attacking spearhead created uncertainty and Athlone promptly scored, a good finish from their right winger after he got in behind the defence. A real sucker punch all the same.
1-1 at the break. About ten minutes into the second half a moment of genius from Tam McManus won the game for Limerick. Received the ball outside the penalty area, he let the ball drift across him, fooling the defender in the process before calmly stroking a left footed shot past the outstretched 'keeper. Cracking goal.
About ten minutes from time a great through ball let Mann in, the youngster outpaced the Athlone back-line before he was hauled down by the 'keeper as he rounded him and was about to roll the ball into the empty net. Straight red card and penalty. Athlone had no reserve 'keeper on the bench so one of their outfield subs had to go in goal. Shane Treacy stepped up but his poor penalty was easily saved by the replacement 'keeper. Incredible scenes. Williams also hit the post with another header from a corner as Limerick looked to put the game to bed.
At 2-1 Athlone were still in it though, they pressed late on and missed a great chance in the last minute as a knock down led to a gilt edged chance but it was poked wide when really the Athlone lad should have done better.
All in all a decent result. Two league wins on the bounce now. Derry away on Monday next, Curran will be a massive loss but we’re well capable of going up there and digging out a point. Sligo at home next Friday.
Attendance tonight of 1,141.

Could they not find a more appropriate stadium?
Surprised he went in there.
Desperately need to get out of TP. Getting fleeced on rent (I’d imagine), the pitch is in a very poor state (ball bobbles everywhere) and with relatively small crowds the games are played out in a pretty soulless atmosphere.
Will be back in the spiritual home of the Markets Field for next season, all things going well.
“Fleeced on rent (I imagine)”
Balla through to fai junior cup final…delighted for my old club… Tom Daily still leading the defence!
Old news pal!
Yeah, I was watching highlights of it earlier…
Fuck em all fuck em all,the long and the short and the tall,we are from Balla we are the best we are from Balla so fuck all the rest!
Clean sheet and a point at The Brandywell. Decent result. Keeps the unbeaten run going.
Just back from TP.
Brutal stuff. Robbie Williams (no entertainment tonight) gifted Sligo the lead in the third minute after a terrible blunder. Sligo much the better side for the rest of the half, could have gone in three or four up.
In the second half the Super Blues upped the ante and the game was more even. Didn’t create much until Rory Gaffney forced their 'keeper into a fine save. With time almost up Shane Treacy was clearly fouled in possession as Limerick desperately chased the game, Sligo broke up field and scored a killer second. It was a blatant foul but the match officials waved away the heated remonstrations. To add insult to injury Sligo done us on the counter attack again to notch a third with the last kick of the game.
A poor display, Pat O’Sullivan was seated a few yards away from me and he was not a happy camper. Without Craig Curran it is hard to see where the goals will come from.
Attendance 819.
Good luck to the skipper Shane Duggan who is getting hitched this weekend.
Super Blues 1-0 up at half time away to Shamrock Rovers, Rory Gaffney with the goal.
What a kick in the balls that is.
Where did the ref get 6 minutes of injury time from?! Frustrating but would have taken a point beforehand. Good to see Gaffney in the scoresheet, a good confidence booster for him. He’ll need it now that Curran is out.
Disaster. Craig Curran has left after a row with the club. Hard to see where the goals will come from now.
Away to Bray tonight.

I’ve a feeling that Taylor lad is a bit of fool. Survival in the premier would be a brilliant season.
Full time. Bray Wanderers 1 Super Blues o.
Mutterings that all is not well within the club, rumours of players being owed a few weeks wages etc…
Without Curran it is hard to see where the goals will come from. All about survival now.
Just back from TP.
Beaten 2-1 by Cork, two horrendous defensive blunders gifted the visitors a two goal lead in the first twenty minutes. After that we more than matched them. A thumping header from Rory Gaffney dragged the Super Blues back into the game early in the second half but Cork held on to claim the Munster derby spoils.
Second from bottom now and a tough season lies in store. Pats at home on Friday night.
Attendance - 836.
