Super Blues 2014 official thread

First half - let’s just say we were really poor. We gifted Cork both goals, especially the second one where duggan’s suicidal back pass was seized upon by Mark O Sullivan who teed up Buckley to score. Our only chance of note was from Rory Gaffney who opted to try to put the ball around the stranded McNulty miles from his goal, rather than lob him. His effort drifted just wide of the post. Utterly dire stuff apart from that.

Majorly improved performance from Super Blues in second half. Defence was far more solid and we kept the ball better. Gaffney deserved his goal, played well throughout. Pinpoint delivery from Shane Tracy but he did nothing else of note all night. Prince & Duggan were solid throughout. Galbraith also made a difference when he came on.

Lehane missed a sitter for City when one on one with Barry Ryan, ballooned his shot into the ballynanty end terrace. McManus up front did little in the game but his free-kick did force an excellent diving save from McNulty near the end. Ross Mann had a last gasp chance for us but his shot was blocked by Dan Murray. We really need a couple of strikers in July! We are not a bad side but lacking in the final third. Curran’s departure is a big loss, whatever the reasons for it. We will stay up though, we are more than good enough to finish above Bohs & Athlone.

Magnificent result for the Super Blues tonight against champions St Pats. Even first half, bereft of any clear-cut chances, before a moment of magic from Danny Galbraith broke the deadlock. Gathering the ball in a deep position he surged past the Pats backline, leaving them trailing in his wake before calmly slotting the ball past the advancing 'keeper with his weaker right foot. A tremendous goal.

Pats upped the ante after conceding but the Limerick rearguard stood strong, Oji and Folan were majestic and repelled everything the Inchicore outfit threw at them. Brennan was introduced for the visitors and while his deadball deliveries were menacing the Super Blues refused to buckle. As Limerick nerves became more frayed they struck for a killer second goal on the break, the impressive Galbraith again involved. The former Manchester United trainee worked himself some space on the right wing before crossing for the unmarked Jason Hughes to control and nonchalantly finish. The raucous celebrations from the players, Stuart Taylor and the delirious supporters gave an insight into the relief of the home side who came into tonights game on the back of a miserable run of form, having earned a mere two points from the previous 6 games.

Limerick comfortably saw out the closing minutes and the majority of the 786 crowd went home happy. Drogheda away next Friday for Stuart Taylors troops.

Nice touch by the club to also wish Ballynanty well on Sunday.

My taxi driver just now was very excited with the 2-0 result. He is a pike man

The cup dream is over. Bohs much superior and should have scored more than the two goals they bagged. The ginger Ronaldo pulled one back with 20 minutes left but a very lacklustre display overall from the Super Blues. Sorely missed Prince in midfield to dictate the tempo.

I believe there was a very poor crowd there, Bohs fans almost outnumbering the locals. Will Limerick be in Markets Field next season? Thomond Park has been a disaster for you.

Attendance 842. Bohs brought a couple of hundred - cheeky cunts were even chanting “Leinster, Leinster” at one stage in the second half.

Can’t move to the Markets Field quick enough and get out of that soul-less concrete jungle. Give me Jackman Park or even Rathbane over it any day.

2-1 win over UCD tonight.

Led 1-0 at the break, didn’t turn up for the second half. Gifted Bohs two goals from defensive howlers. A sickener to concede an 88th minute winner. Awful display in Turners Cross last week and this was almost as bad.

Crowd was very poor, they didn’t announce it but I’d guess it was the smallest of the season. The new lad on loan from Cork, Turner, looked decent in the first half but apart from that not many positives.

Reports going around that the crowd was 300. That is absolutely abysmal. Limerick need to get the fuck out of that rugby stadium before it’s too late.

Eh the World Cup is on mate, I wouldn’t get too upset.

I taught you were a GAA man why would you go to shit like this. Any GAA man worth his salt doesn’t watch soccer in Limerick. You’d know you weren’t from a proper GAA club like Pallasgrean where soccer is outlawed and Rugby is accepted as a man’s sport.

Manager Stuart Taylor has left/been sacked.

Did a decent job overall, surprised they have made a change now and not waited a while longer.

Pat Fenlon or David Moyes in please.

Tommy Lynch will get it

Ian Barraclough is the surprise front runner for the post.

Thumped 3-0 away to bottom of the table Athlone tonight.

Athlone on a good run though. The Score described us as “gutless” :frowning: Only Ian Turner seemed to put in a good shift again.

8 goals conceded in 3 games now. Worrying.

second 4-1 victory on the trot for Limerick FC.

Good to see the team going through a good spell of results.

A second 4-1 win in 6 days.

It was the ginger Ronaldo show. Rory Gaffney was a man possessed, bagged a hat-trick and terrorised Bray all night. The second one in particular was a peach, venomous left foot drive that flew past the 'keeper at his near post. The Galway native also created the other Super Blues goal, an astute pass finding Lee-J Lynch who notched his first goal for the club.

Not a great display overall, we were much better against Rovers. Bray were reduced to 10 early in the second half, a a second yellow deservedly brandished for simulation. Rusty Russell has us well set-up, Lynch was a shrewd acquisition - we will sit back before attacking sides on the break through the pace & guile of Gaffney, Lynch, Turner and Djilali.

Attendance of 715.

LIMERICK FC Chairman, Pat O’Sullivan is confident the team will be playing their home games in the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division games at the Markets Field next season.

Limerick FC have been playing their home fixtures at Thomond Park for the past two seasons, but O’Sullivan is confident that the team will be able to return to the ‘spiritual home’ of Limerick soccer when the season starts in March 2015.

Limerick FC Chairman, Pat O’Sullivan said he hoped to be in a position to announce the team’s return to the Markets Field before the Blues play their final league game of the season against Sligo Rovers on Friday, October 17.

O’Sullivan said: “The pitch (at the Markets Field) is ready. We are in negotiations about our licensing terms and the facilities around it. They are on-going.

“I am expecting they will be concluded to our satisfaction in plenty of time for us to be announcing the Markets Field by the time we get to our last (Premier Division) game against Sligo Rovers.

“The Markets Field has been bought for senior soccer. The government has made the funding available for it. We are in co-operation and working with the people whose job it is to bring it a point of where it is acceptable for us. There is no reason for it not to happen.

“Senior soccer needs it. We all fully accept that this place (Thomond Park) is very big and is difficult. The alternative for us, when we look back on it, was to play all our games in Galway or away from home. It may have been cheaper to do that, frankly because you cannot live here on the crowds we are attracting. I have been carrying that financial cost, but that is not sustainable.

“From an economic perspective, for the sustainability of the club, the Markets Field need to happen and it needs to happen to a commercially satisfactory structure for Limerick FC.

“It needs to have seating capacity for a minimum of 1,500 people. It needs to have a separate, area for away supporters. Thereafter, there are a lots of things the FAI insist on. The FAI are an integral part of these discussions to ensure everything that is done is compliant with licensing. They have been to the Markets Field months ago.

“They are in constant touch with Limerick Enterprise Development Partnership (LEDP) on that one. Everyone is working together. It is refurbishing a lot of what is there in Phase 1. I don’t see any issues with anything in that respect, as I understand it.”

Was at the Athlone game tonight, Gaffney and Djilali both with a brace in an exciting 4-2 victory.

Won 2-1 in Derry tonight.

A 90th minute winner.
